Talk about the nightmare scenario. Have to imagine the Mirror's sources are quite optimistic and Utd based.

If Utd would be willing to offer Martial for Willian I'm sure Levy would demand the same for Toby. But on the other hand as others have said I don't think he'd be able to turn down £60m.

perfect storm.....

toby to united
martial to chelsea with zaha
willian to united as exchange
we get fuk all

refusing to panic just yet but we all feared united would just offer a large amount of cash and levy wouldn't be able to say no. we'll see....

What? Man City rejected an unrealistic evaluation of a player they didn't need in the middle of the best premier league season of all time.
Thereby showing that £20m had at least some relevance to the richest club on Earth. So why wouldn't even more be a big deal to us?

I don't think Levy is dumb to sanction a transfer without bringing anyone in.
And the negotiation has to be Martial or no deal. F*ck United.

If it‘s spent wisely and we can improve the team, then fine...but I’m not exact filled with confidence at the moment that it will be.
100% this. I would be okay with selling him to Utd for 60 mil if I knew we would go out and reinvest the money in qulity additions. But I really don’t have the faith we will.

'IF' we receive 60m for a player who has fallen out with Poch and has a 25m release clause the following year we would have done very, very well. Getting Martial as part of the deal would have been great but it is Utd's prerogative to sell him to us and they did not have the same pressure as we did over Toby. What do we do once that player is off the table and we are left with the Toby conundrum? There were no other serious bidders for him and the only option is to extract maximum value.

It would be pretty awful to be stuck with a depreciating asset that won't play for us again.

Because United don't look at Chelsea like pushovers like they do with us. And on evidence of us strengthening them without getting anything back, they're right,
They easily acquired a top level player (Matic) from Chelsea much more recently than they got any of ours (ten years since Berbatov).

If Martial being offered to Chelsea is bollocks and they still refuse to sell to us, getting maximum value and using it to buy Zaha should give Poch a result he's happy with. As long as that leaves enough budget for a quality CM then I'd be all for that.

Think Palace will play the too late card though.

And we'll only have ourselves to blame.

Chelsea had no interest in keeping him. Jose said himself he was stunned at how easy it was.

No quite the same

Poch has interest in keeping Toby now?

Our summer's business was predicated on losing him, Dembélé and maybe Rose asap.

EDIT: I am convinced that the above is what "being brave" meant.
