I think Sanchez is going to be the best CB in the league this year - just watching him this summer in the WC, and the one preseason match - he looks like he has really matured. I think he is ready to take on more responsibility.

If I had to guess, an injury to Jan or Davinson, and Dier is the de facto replacement. Poch does not really rotate the CBs for big matches, so I would think they play most matches, and Foyth rotates in for League Cup or FA Cup matches.

I think we are fine at CB - but I am curious to see how we handle CM.

Yes Sanchez is incredible. I agree with you on the rest but it does leave a massive question mark in DM what with Wanyama's injury issues. The lack of any links to a player who could potentially play instead of Dier in midfield if he drops back into CB is a concern though but still time I guess.

Also, just from a PR point of view, surely the club won’t announce that we’ve sold Toby to United before making a signing ourselves?

That would surely be the final nail in the coffin for Spurs Twitter ?

Did so with Walker. I am sure the PR department would rather not but if the deal out is done and no deals in are done then they will announce it as it happens. Levy is a lot of things but a PR person he is not.

Walker was much earlier on in the window though, right?

There has also been the worry in the back of my mind that Vertonghen eventually starts getting a bit worse as he gets older - thankfully hasn’t happened yet, if anything he’s been getting better every season
Verts mentioned a talk he had with Chiellini after the Juve matches, where he talked about limiting his minutes as he got older. I think we will see Verts cut back to around 35 matches this season - in an effort to keep him at the top of his game.

I think we bring in a CM this window, and a CB next summer.

But who knows - maybe we turn around and get de ligt in the next few days.

Name a club that (without financial doping) has had a greater rise than us in world football in the past decade? Name a club that has invested more in growth than us in that timeframe? Spurs are incredibly ambitious and getting bigger by the season.

Dortmund :). But agree with the sentiment all the same.

Are we screwed with Toby leaving with no replacement? Yes. Cant really spin it. Foyth gonna step up from never playing a minute in the league to suddenly becoming a key player? CCV ready for PL level football? Cant move Dier as Wanyama cant stay fit and is Amos really ready for a good amount of PL football?

We need a CM, a CB and another AM by Thursday. We dont have non HG slots to use unless we dont name VJ, Janssen, Sissoko or Llorente in the squad and cant find homes for them in 3 weeks and even that would probably only open 2 non HG slots unless ive fucked the calculations leaving us short unless we sign Zaha or Grealish(both of whom look unlikely and the only hg we’ve really been linked with). This window has been calamitous. Levy needs to pull together a masterclass 4.5 days here.

Depends I think, if we sign another dm along with a cm and consider Dier a cb but only play 4 at the back we are okay. Unfortunately we are none the wiser on how we are setting up next season.

Toby screwed Southampton over to join us. I’m guessing he has done similar to join Utd. Maybe he is a bad egg?
This transfer window is nothing but a joke. Losing two important players to two teams that we are supposed to be competing with in successional seasons is a disgrace. I would say I hope that the fee is massive but who cares as we don’t or won’t plough the money back in.

Yes but if we read into the lack of actual CM ITK/links and having actual AM ITK smoke and media links leads me to believe Eriksen and/or Dele will be playing further back next season.

Selling Toby to United might be a good business decision but not getting Martial in return makes us look small time as a club and takes us back to the bad old days of selling them Carrick and Berbatov. The only way to quash that perception, and it matters not just to us but to the outside world, is if we go out and make a marquee signing better than Martial and before anyone says it Zaha most certainly isn’t that regardless of whatever ridiculous price Palace might be quoting. Not holding my breath, wouldn’t be at all surprised to see our only transfer activity be sales.

Yeah I agree with that which makes me think 2 signings a defensive midfielder and a winger could be all we need with possibly a cm for cover. I'm talking absolute minimums though.

But who's out there better than Martial? Unless all of a sudden someone has a longing to come home.

Moving Toby means we can register everyone for the league.

We won't register Janssen - so that opens up 1 spot. We probably won't register GKN, so that opens two spots.

CL is a separate problem because both Foyth and Davies must be registered. Right now, we can register everyone (excluding Janssen and GKN). If we sign someone, then we cannot register 1 non-HG. If Wanyama is out 8-10 weeks - we might opt not to register him. Similarly, if we keep Dembele, I could see us not registering him for the Group matches, and save him for PL only.

So, we do have some flexibility with HG players right now - not much, but some.

There are many players better than Martial. Would any want to come to us or be available? Maybe not. Then don’t sell Toby without getting Martial. Sacrifice £35m so you don’t look like a bunch of mugs forever more, act like a big club, kind of like a United are behaving.

You think going into a potential 60 game season with just Sanchez and Vertonghen as our CBs isn't just a little bit stupid and careless? They could easily pick up a medium to long term injury, and then what? In a league where literally the tiniest margins the difference between 1st and 6th and winners and losers, having Foyth or CCV are our back up CBs is totally unacceptable. Last season our squad was too weak in depth when it came to the crunch, and this season we would be even weaker....

and do you think a quality CB is going to sit on the bench?

why play 3 at the back v Bus parkers who are they meant to mark in case we get hit on the counter. the games we will play 3 at the back will be when we can drop Dier back, and if Wanyama is finished due to injury we would have to use a player like Amos if we don't buy someone this week
