Here's to hoping this is the catalyst. *If* we do in fact have deals lined up, as we have heard, we may have just been waiting for this moment. If we are indeed going to sell to a rival, the least we can do is leave it til late so there is no time for any preseason/training. That could then put us in a position to finalize the deals on the other players we have lined up. Now, I'm not saying that's what's going to happen. But, it's a possibility. I'm waiting til the window is shut before I get all spun out over it. :nailbiting:

you moan about ST prices, and then expect the club to pay a player we don't want his wages each week just because United won't sell us a player.

Its not that we want to see a player paid his wages for being on the bench. Its about strenghening a rival 2 yrs running.

We pay many a player who gets marginal minutes throughout the season or just getting cameo appearances. So that reasoning doesnt wash with me.

Now if there was a younger exciting talentlined up like a De Ligt or that Pavard guy as an example, those of us disgruntled with this deal would find it slightly palatable and see the long term gain to this particular deal. Now lets not go the route of there is still 5 days to replace him.... I've heard that throughout the window.

We've known for roughly 12 months or more actually of TA's stance on his contract....we should have had his replacement scouted, negotiated and signed by 1 June 2018. This just smacks of the Berbatov/ Keane situation all over again.

I've seen comments to the effect that Foyth/Sanchez was the replacement player... Yet prior to TA's injury he was constantly in the starting 11.

Its truly sad to lose a talented defender of his calibre to a Rival... ( Okay it started as a reply and became a rant...got that off my chest :cautious:).

Sounds weird maybe but I'd rather sell Toby for 60mio tomorrow than on deadline day. We still have time to react and first movement 1 week before the end is better than last day. Don't forget also that Toby just had a very bad injury that could affect his play for lifetime, he's turning 30, he disrepected spurs and is no longer wanted by Poch.

So, Toby thank you for great services and 50mio of sell-on profit (wages excluded ofc.) but time to wave goodbye. Kane will destroy him at NWHL anyway and it will be joy to watch.

Its pretty obvious we signed sanchez and foyth for this scenario. Last summer we were all moaning we were signing 2 cbs when we had the best defence well here is the reason. Think we was only willing to add if we could get an exceptional talent i.e De Ligt.
This, I reckon Toby and his crew were never planning on a new contract with us.

Lets not butter it, walker and toby are big losses the last two years. We are still not at the top table, we are an ajax/monaco buy young cheap sell high.

We need to make sure this money goes to good use.

If we're going to be that sort of club, then we need to embrace it and run on a policy of 1 out, 2 youngsters of absolute quality in

Plus another quality signing every season from the regular transfer kitty. Essentially, a conveyor-belt of talent coming into the club with a good player leaving every 2 or 3 seasons. This would ensure a strong squad for years to come

But as you say, it's all about the reinvestment and this is an area where I think we can do a lot better

Oh, and strengthening rivals doesn't help either...

Are we screwed with Toby leaving with no replacement? Yes. Cant really spin it. Foyth gonna step up from never playing a minute in the league to suddenly becoming a key player? CCV ready for PL level football? Cant move Dier as Wanyama cant stay fit and is Amos really ready for a good amount of PL football?

We need a CM, a CB and another AM by Thursday. We dont have non HG slots to use unless we dont name VJ, Janssen, Sissoko or Llorente in the squad and cant find homes for them in 3 weeks and even that would probably only open 2 non HG slots unless ive fucked the calculations leaving us short unless we sign Zaha or Grealish(both of whom look unlikely and the only hg we’ve really been linked with). This window has been calamitous. Levy needs to pull together a masterclass 4.5 days here.

I agree, it'll be tough, but it is doable

Btw, fwiw, aren't under-21 players 'freebies' when it comes to squad inclusion

So the likes of De Ligt and Pulisic (and whoever else) could be included for the next couple of seasons, but not effect any quotas, etc?

Wasn’t Davidson his replacement blooded last year?

Take the money and run, hardly played last season and we did just fine.

I don't know how it will be spent. I don't see how anyone can predict anything in this transfer window. £60m is too good to turn down.

It's only good for non transfer spending - like on the stadium. The transfer market is relative so if £60m is the going rate for Toby it means getting someone else in will be equally as bad value. And we will have strengthened Man U in the process.

Toby got what he wanted in the end then. This doesn't come as a suprise does it?

Like Walker, you probably can't understate what he offered the team at the back, and you could argue you are strengthening a rival but considering they shipped the fewest goals in the prem last year (I think?) then people are just upset we're selling to Utd.

I'll only be upset if the money isn't reinvested properly on a player that adds to/improves the team, no more dead wood type signings.

I don't care. Poch wants Toby gone. I don't see anyone else interested. £60m now or 12 months of a player the manager doesn't want on £75k a week leaving for £25m to possibly United anyway. I'll take it and run. Others think different.

We've already had his best years. £60m is robbery by us. It's what we do with the money that is the £60m question here.

£60m for a 30 year old mercenary who, we've been told, threw his toys out of the cot and then took a dump on Poch? I'll take that all day so long as Poch gets what he wants with the money.

If by all accounts he wants Martial but they won't sell him to us it is bonkers to me we'd entertain selling to them, in my eyes doesn't send a statement and is quite weak. Rather he went for 25 mill next year and piss them off. But I'm a stubborn **** and it's probably the reason I'm poor.

Look, I'm not against selling to united if they offer the right money, but if they won't deal, in regards to Martial them we should not be selling to United regardless of the money they are offering. I've given up all hope they will sign someone that will improve our side this window.
So you'd walk away from 50-60 million for a player who can leave for 25 next year?
That money *could* be used on a player this week. Whether it is used, we'll have to wait and see. But Toby staying doesn't look like it's an option, so I'd cash in for as much as possible.
