Of course we can have quality players sitting on the bench ? How else do top clubs keep strong squads? The fact you are seriously saying that we will have to use a completely raw kid in Amos at DM because Dier has to play CB where Dier isn't even that good anyway, tells us all we need to know about how shocking the window has been in terms of leaving us in a stronger position than last year. You may be happy with this but many of us aren't and Poch won't he happy either you can bet on that.

I expect you won't be moaning on here when we miss out on CL and again finish trophyless because you think it's ok in only having 2 recognised top CBs in the squad? It has nothing to do with playing 3 at the back and everything to do with lacking depth if Sanchez or Verts get injured.

hopefully one day we will have 25 man squad that 1 day will be strong all the way through, but at the moment we are not in a position to be paying 18 star players over 100-200k a week, we haven't even moved into our new stadium yet. we have had 1 season where we have made a good profit, and people think we can compete with the teams that have profits like that since the PL/SKY/CL or money clubs. we can't but we are "building".

I can understand that but its also understandable why people feel so negative atm. Let me explain myself at least - it is also toxic when people relay their worries and certain posters refuse to accept anything other than a positive view because Kane has signed a contract and we have a new stadium.

I love those 2 things too but I also want to win things and that means buying players that will help that to happen. All of my mates support other clubs and they dont see us as a big club because of how we operate in the transfer windows and how we still sell to rivals.

Maybe I was a bit OTT earlier as I have a banging hangover but I am just as passionate about our club as the other positive only posters...I just want to see some results now and standing still wont do that. Both sides are annoying I get that and I am sure I have irritated people this window but you never see the more worried posters insult the positive ones...its always the other way around and makes you feel like you cant post here at times.
Don't get me wrong mate, I'm not exactly thrilled with the business done so far obviously and like I said it wasn't aimed at you, I will just wait 4 more days before I judge

Even after taxes etc the bloke's likely to end up on £20m career earnings at least - assuming no Chinese pay-day in his mid-thirties etc. And huge earning potential afterwards too through coaching, media, a book deal etc if he wants it. That's more than enough to do whatever you want with the rest of your life without having to worry about money at all. In that position I do think I'd rather be at a club where I was happy, my family life was settled, I was playing and enjoyed my football than risk it all for a few extra million. Now maybe he hasn't felt happy here in which case fair enough, but at this point I really do no longer understand those that just chase the money. It almost seems more like chasing extra points in some game than anything reasonable.
thats more than enough for you or I. Toby has become accustomed to having more money than us.

but we won't be paying him to sit on the bench, unless that's what he uses when sat at home when playing his PS4. people moan about our spending and not pushing it that extra few mill, but want to throw 35m down the drain (for a 29 injury prone player that has no loyalty), and near on another 4m in wages. it doesn't make sense

I get you and others understand the financial implications. I think its more to do with strengthening a rival and being bent over in particular w.r.t to the Martial deal too.

No amount of rationalising makes this deal palatable. When you look at the numbers its a no brainer.. But many look beyond the numbers.. There will always be a justification when selling a player. There is no justification for strengthening a rival. We can go around in circles all day on this one. But yes i see your point on the numbers of the deal.

Possibly some more posturing.

I can't see Leicester selling for less than £Silly, and I can't see United being willing to pay £Silly for him. (£Silly being maybe £80m plus).

It's more likely that this could be a new hand in the Poker game after we said no to Martial as part of the deal (assuming that's the case).

With Chelscum's defence all at sea in the Charity Shield, will there be a bidding war?

I would rather strengthen with a player that we don't want. if we wanted him I'd be arguing too, or if we would even consider using him, and with Poch's record I don't think we would see him anywhere near the squad. I even doubt he would use him in the CoC

those that look beyond the numbers will be the 1st to moan if in January or next summer we can't afford a player because he is 10+m out of our reach

I wish this was over...I was quite happy with the chat earlier that a deal was close simply because it makes the next few days a little clearer. But nah, that was too easy.

Probably unsettling him whilst promising to sign him so that he doesn’t sign for anyone else. Then offer 30 million in January and save themselves 30 million. Wouldn’t surprise me as all of their CBS are pretty rubbish bad need replacing

There are many players better than Martial. Would any want to come to us or be available? Maybe not. Then don’t sell Toby without getting Martial. Sacrifice £35m so you don’t look like a bunch of mugs forever more, act like a big club, kind of like a United are behaving.

Lose out on £35m, half of the first teams annual wages combined for a year to save face? Pride can be a deadly thing

Mate our model is buying at the END of a window when there are bargains to be had.... Its what the Bsodl call "LEVY TIME". So those looking beyond the numbers would not moan.

This window is mad.

What's mad about it is how crazy it is yet absolutely nothing has happened invomings or outgoings except a couple of youth flogs and movings on.

How can a window be so berserk yet so calm on face value? It's either Incredible or the media having an absolute field day

I agree, but that money could still end up being important, the difference of buying a better lastminute.com

Mad if you're obsessed like us, on forums and twitter etc. If you supported another club or just turned up on opening day, its quiet and boring as could be.
