Why would any club desperately want one of the best defenders in the league and possibly Europe gone? We are a strange club

Concerned about the seemingly big turnaround, but Poch knows better than we do so have to trust him.

Because we can get 25million for him now, or nothing next year? If he signs a new contract, then he stays, if not we want him sold to make money off the deal and use to buy someone else. Not strange at all.

I wonder how keen Toby is to leave this summer himself? Apart from Roma there hasn’t been mant rumours at all. It really baffles me that United are about to splash £70-90m on Maguire (or whatever it is) om Maguire when this guy is available for £25m

Because nobody wants to pay him 200kpw

I think you and others are being too rigid with the info...we defo want him gone but obviously if there are no takers at our terms then he stays and also him going on tour is as much of a benefit for him as it is to us and especially if there arent takers...we will see

Exactly. We were happy for him to play whatever it was amount of games last season so if he doesn’t go then the same thing will happen.

I would say at least some of it is based on football. Toby form is on the decline imo. He was amazing in his first season and his form has slightly declined every season since.
He was unbelievable last year and our most consistent and reliable defender.

He was also better in his second season than his first.

It's all well and good saying we want him gone but he's one of the best CB's in the world, who the hell are we looking at to replace him?

Losing Rose and Toby in the same window would be a monumental blow and would weaken our defence massively.

So with Toby going this summer, and Foyth being inexplicably pushed out to RB, we're left with two central defenders. Leaves us desperately short, but on the plus side, at least Poch won't be able to play 3 at the back next season.

Maybe Foyth is being 'inexplicably pushed out to RB' so that we have some funds left to replace Toby with. Maybe Poch sees it as a better move for Foyth's longterm development.

I think we need to be open minded and wait to see how things unfold. As it stands, it looks like Rose is off, Sessegnon is coming, and with Toby going on tour he’s probably staying unless something dramatic happens. Therefore, on day 1 of the season, our defensive options for likely four positions are likely to be:

Aurier
Walker Peters
Foyth
Alderweireld
Sanchez
Vertonghen
Davies
Sessegnon

From eight players I make that three who’ll be considered at right back, three who’ll be considered at left back, 5 who’ll be considered at centre back.

I’m not including Dier in this equation as there’s been no indication that he’s going to be used anywhere other than midfield unless there’s an emergency,

From that, I see:

a proven left back who has been very good for us, an exciting attacking left back with huge potential, and a centre back who has played superbly at left back many times.

Two world class centre backs, one very good centre back still early in his career and two year’s premier league experience, a raw young centre back full of talent and a left back who has proven himself able of playing centre back at a very high level.

One right back who as yet has not impressed but also never had much of a run, but did arrive with a very good reputation and has every chance of turning it around, one young right back who now has a real opportunity to fulfil his potential and become first choice, and a young centre back who has just become his country’s first choice right back.

Now, should Toby and Aurier leave, neither of which seems even close to happening right now, then they will need replacing. Rose of course seems very likely. However, if all pans out as it appears to be panning out, we will likely be left with the combination of players I’ve described, which gives us depth, experience, reliability, potential and balance. It’s not ideal as we’d have three options for right back who are yet to have proven themselves at the level required, but unless all players who have improved under Pochettino, I have every faith that at least one of them will.

I for one will not get angsty until there is tangible reason to do so. At the time of typing, there is not.

I don’t think he was unbelievable last season and the stats and our defensive record will back that up (not completely Toby’s fault granted) and he certainly was not better than jan last season

Because quite evidently it's a decision that's not based purely on his footballing ability.
Only thing that makes sense to me is that Poch see's this as his Fergie moment. In that if you mess with him or the club then your gone, no matter your footballing ability. Personally think Toby is being made an example of for any future dissenters. Goes for Rose too
