He moved one of the corner flags too.More ?
If we want to be successful we have to paye players what they're worth.. or why wouldn't they want to leave..if we ain't willing to pay key players like Toby & Harry what they're worth we have no chance of attracting the players that could push us on &win trophies. .& we are so close to Title winning team.. Do we have the ambition?problem is we don’t have the money for all of them, that’s why we made an example with walker! If we pay Toby, Rose will want more, Lamela, basically any of the team who has a contract renewal. And we are not City, we just can’t pay them all. So we do what we can with the players who will stay. Maybe after a few years in the new stadium, but at the moment we just can’t complete wages wise with the big boys! And if they come calling we will loose players. It happens with walker last year, it is happening with Toby now. I just hope we can hang on to Kane, Dele and Eriksen, but it won’t be easy!! Champions league football and the new stadium will help but it ain’t everything, these players want it all, they want the wages, the cups, and the titles, and we just ain’t at that level yet. I think this is a new era in football and working your way slowly to the top is not the name of the game anymore. You have to do it all now in the millennium society, so teams with big owners and deep pockets are the only ones who can. Sadly it’s the reality of the game! You can get lucky with a one off, Leicester showed that, but as we have seen it’s not sustainable, the big boys came and picked of the players they wanted and left Leicester back as a mid table team.
In fairness Herc..it's not about goalposts moving..a player like Toby will always have offers that we can't match & it will be his last big contract.. what is pitiful is we don't even offer close to what he's worth.. & it's a bad precedent if you want to keep this team together & if they use Toby to get Bale back then maybe fans will be overjoyed..personally think i'd rather pay Toby..you'll win nothing without leaders & Toby organises a defence..Remember my post couple months ago? Toby! Has it backfired? Please
Is this cryptic or just odd English?Remember my post couple months ago? Toby! Has it backfired? Please
He was interviewed by Roberto Martinez - and while he did not address Toby specifically, Poch made a point of saying players have to prove they are the best at their position to get selected. That implied, to me, that Poch thinks Sanchez is playing better - right now- and he is not inclined to change unless/until Toby shows he is better in training.

You've been listening to too much Merson on Soccer SaturdayIn fairness Herc..it's not about goalposts moving..a player like Toby will always have offers that we can't match & it will be his last big contract.. what is pitiful is we don't even offer close to what he's worth.. & it's a bad precedent if you want to keep this team together & if they use Toby to get Bale back then maybe fans will be overjoyed..personally think i'd rather pay Toby..you'll win nothing without leaders & Toby organises a defence..
What exactly are you basing this on?, how do you know this is the case?In fairness Herc..it's not about goalposts moving..a player like Toby will always have offers that we can't match & it will be his last big contract.. what is pitiful is we don't even offer close to what he's worth.. & it's a bad precedent if you want to keep this team together & if they use Toby to get Bale back then maybe fans will be overjoyed..personally think i'd rather pay Toby..you'll win nothing without leaders & Toby organises a defence..
So he isn't playing, we are on a really successful spell in the league during his absence, and people still think we can't cope without our second best CB.
In fact, the year before we did end up signing him, Alderweireld's pace (or lack thereof) was a heavy argument for not signing him. Then he moved to PL, proved himself to some degree, and was signed despite his pace. As we've learned, Alderweireld works well in a really tight-knitted, well organised defence unit. However, pace does seem to be on the long-term agenda when developing the squad (Moura, Aurier, Sanchez).Indeed.
I'm not saying he is a better CB yet because he isn't, but Sanchez and his pace may be more effective than Toby for our team dynamic when Trips and Davies are playing at full back.
Absolutely. Evans comes with the bonuses of being a seasoned PL campaigner and having won all sorts of things under Fergie. Should Toby leave (as looks likely), this is the sort of signing we should be aiming for - maybe there's a more left field option in the mould of Naybet out there.I'm accepting the Toby situation now as I'm a big fan of Sanchez and think he can be one of the best in the league/World. His ceiling is higher and he has better physical attributes.
What we've missed from Walker mainly is the physical attributes over Tripps (who is the better crosser and passer IMHO), but we don't have that issue here.
The rise of Sanchez has taken Toby out of the indispensable bracket of Kane, Eriksen, Verts, Dele for me.
Yes he is one of the best defenders in the league, but if what Rob said is true (Poch pushed levy to meet demands, then Toby wanted VVD money) then Poch is right to move it on. If we were sitting in 6th struggling without him we'd have a case, or if we were 2nd with him playing every week we would too. But he's had a bad injury and we've been very good without him! As @Hercules said, the gamble has not paid off for Toby and his team.
I'd love Toby to have a change of heart and agree in the 120-140k range, as that's where I think our top model has to shift to. That said Vertonghen deserves at least parity now so has to be taken into consideration.
My main caveat is selling him abroad however. He is still a top defender so selling him to a rival for more cash would be criminal by Levy and Poch. I can see why we may need to move him on but no need to strengthen rivals.
Losing Toby has gone from absolute disaster last season to manageable, the main issue being the lack of real quality depth. As much as I love Sanchez I'd worry if we lost Verts to injury, whereas Sanchez is top drawer with either Belgian, and Dier and Foyth would be ok for most opposition alongside Jan if Sanchez was out. I can see why we've been linked to Evans, an older head as back up with Foyth in the wings and Dier as another option may not be a bad move at all.
