Remember how cocksure everyone was 18 months or so ago that the days of us selling our best players to domestic rivals were over?

For better or worse, Levy is a business man, and he will sell anyone if the price is right.

Think his hand is being forced somewhat.

Even if they’re paying that it still means making them stronger and us weaker.

If that 70m figure is true then there’s no excuses to not go and get De Ligt.

how can it make us weaker, if 1, Poch doesn't want him, 2, he won't be happy on the wages he will be getting so might not be as professional and cause upset, and 3, as has been mentioned he is nearly 30, and suffered a massive hammy injury last season and is unlikely going to play a full season due to a weakness

We're getting a lot of money. Apparently.

The only way this deal will look worthwhile is if we reinvest the money in a quality addition to the squad. I don’t necessarily mean Toby out another CB in, get a quality CM or an alternative to Martial.

United concede few goals. I think Jose wants Toby at any cost because he's the elite route one centre back. He'll be pinging diagonals to Rashford weekly
No chance of that as Maureen doesn't appear to fancy Rashford

As it was with Walker last season?

We're already one of the richest clubs in the league. Shit like this just reinforces the perception that we're a stepping stone club.

Maybe, however for whatever reason the manager and the club moved him on for a lot of money, and he wanted to go.

Why keep players who don’t want to be here?

We sell and move on.

Crazy how the market has changed. We're getting almost as much for a 29 year old injury prone CB who isn't first choice as we did for Bale in his prime.

We really need to get over this sort of mindset. We’re not selling our best players...in fact it seems like every elite player we have is signing new contracts.

Yes it’s not great that Toby is going but given that he’s burned bridges and Poch allegedly wants him out this is a completely different scenario to the days of Carrick or Berbatov.

And rightly so IMO.

Exactly it’s not as if he was a key figure for us last season.

But he will ping long balls up to Lukaku which is how he had Chelsea playing with drogba. I dont care who Maureen brings in. He ruins every decent ball player he gets and upsets half his squad.
I really think he'll be sacked before end of season.

Are Chelsea a stepping stone club for selling Matic?

I don't know of anyone who thought that transfer was a good idea, beyond the suits at Chelsea who sold him over Conte's head. Hardly a great model to follow.

This will also be the second major sale to a top six club in 12 months. No other top club is selling their players to their domestic rivals at that rate.

I don’t think we’ve much choice other to accept the bid. With the new FFP rules coming in restricting net expenditure it’s going to reduce transfer fees, therefore this is too good an offer to turn down.

By nothing i mean no player in return, I fully get that 70m would be a lot it's more than I think anyone would expect, and yes I know poch wants rid and I'm glad levy is doing what he wants, but I think we got to at some point stamp our foot down and say "if you want our player then we want one of yours" which is clearly the case here with our interest in martial.

and if Utd turn round and say no deal, we are then stuck with a player Poch doesn't want, and lose £30m+ in a years time, and also have less money to buy other targets

Was just thinking exactly the same as some above.

They want a ball playing CB, to improve their build up play from deep, and Toby has an excellent long pass on him as well.

He'll improve them no doubt.

Is it really that different to Carrick or Berbatov? Utd decide they want one of our players and after a bit of haggling they get their man. We've already seen how they react when the shoe is on the other foot.

We aren’t in the same financial situation as any of the other top 5, we can either accept that fact or ignore it and batter our club with it.

Come on you water living mammal a bit of haggling? £70M for a 29 year old who goes for £25M next season?
