He must be one of the most poorly advised players in world football, by my count assuming he's on roughly 50 and was offered at least 150, he's heading into his 3rd year after that offer was made he's looking at about 15 million he's missed out on. Now you look at the likes of Roma trying to get him, they're not going to be able to cover those losses + additional going forward plus pay 25 million for him. The only chance he has of recouping any of that loss of earnings is if he leaves on a free and gets a mega wage.

It doesn't matter when it expires.. He would be gone already..... Wouldn't be on the tour or been made captain for the Juve game. How do you guys not see that?

Very suprised that absolutely no one was prepared to meet the buy-out as it was an absolute steal for a player of his calibre. There must be an answer in the inner sanctum of the football world that we will not find out.

Many of you are making a big deal out of this clause. IDMAS.

He's still here because he is going Bosman. His team sets his wage demands extremely high; if a club accepts, great, Toby gets his last big deal. If not, he goes on a free next year with wider range of options and a big fat signing bonus.

Let’s be honest we all thought he’d be gone by now, so I’m not going to begrudge him his big deal when he moves next year.

Maybe this will serve as a template for how we deal with older members of the squad...i.e. we get 5-6yra out of them on one contract which is probably on lower wages than they’d get elsewhere but we let them run that contract down. Toby, Verts, Vorm and Llorente are all probably underpaid for their level.

I think most of us are well aware of this.

The fact is most of us would rather lose Toby on a bosman next year than lose him for £25m this year. That's why we're happy the clause has expired.
