He's not exactly over the hill and if anything "coming into his prime". Nobody knows how Xhaka will do in this league so whilst I don't always buy the argument of being established in the PL is the best way to go, we know what we will be getting from him. At the right price it makes great sense. To be able to potentially have Dier, Wanyama, Dembele on the pitch will be some scary shit!

God a midfield or Dier, Wanyama, Dembele doesn't impress me at all. Where's the attacking forward passing coming from?

Bentaleb tries but gets blasted for actually trying something progressive.

He actually gets blasted for his crossfield sideways passing that usually leads to opposition chances.

We would rarely see all three play together. We badly need an alternative to Dier as he played far too many games last season and plus he is first choice DM in the Euros

We don't have to blow our budget just to be able to sign a better player than Wanyama.
I am not Wanyama's biggest fan either, however we have a player who really wants to come to us. Who will not cost ridiculous money and still young enough to keep improving. Dier was a revelation at DM last season, however he was burnt out at the end. Wanyama is very similar to Dier so helps with rotation and cover. I remember last season constantly worrying if Dier received a suspension or injury. Hopefully saving money on a DM will help us buy more expressive players further forward.

I completely agree with you and totally understand why people want to sign him, but why sign a clone of Dier when you could sign an alternative who could play alongside Dier or Dembele? Or add something that neither of those two provide.

With Xhaka Arsenal have a DM who has a fantastic passing range, but he could easily line up alongside another defensive player.

Because there's more games than the 38 we play in the Premier League.

Quality DM's are a bit thin on the ground. He's not the greatest passer, but would enhance our options in a variety of ways and seems a no brainer if it's at the right price.

Dropping Walker for Dier at RB and playing him alongside Dembele would be a great option to have, espec for tough away games

Absolutely. So why not have players that offer different options.
Who's to say we're not looking another midfielder to compete with Dembele though? I think the two midfield positions are very delineated now. The deep holding player dropping in with the CBs and the more advanced player with license to do box to box.

Dier and Wanyama for deep DM and Dembele and Dahoud for CM?

We currently have dembele, Mason, alli, bentaleb, Carroll, winks who can play alongside Dier.

Who we have who can do Diers job?

That is why we need a DM rather than a nice midfielder.

People keep saying we need a deep lying playmaker but we haven't bought one since modric. I don't think poch wants to play with one.
