I think he's suffering from a chronic lack of confidence, exacerbated by the fact that he's playing in a new league, new team, and new country.

I believe he has the tools to succeed here, but he needs to find a bit of form soon, for both his sake and ours. We saw with Soldado that a short term lack of confidence can result in terminal career decline if not checked in time.

I think Soldado has ruined it for Vinny. Has used up all of the Spurs "fans" patience and support so not much left for another hard working (to be fair infinitely harder working than Bobby) / non scoring striker.

At least with Vinny we can still say the general service he has received has been poor vs. Bobby where there was a point where sitters were flying high and wide

I don't think fans are being impatient at all, in fact we are willing him to do well...I think for most people they are commenting on what they see and as things stand he looks to be a poor footballer and a poor athlete. I would love to have seen him alive to the Eriksen free-kick and snaffling in the rebound or bullying the Arsenal centre backs when he came on. I would estimate that I've seen him play about 6 hours of football for Spurs so far... do you think an objective observer would deem him a good player?

Hector Bellerin (Arsenal) – 34.77km/h

Vincent Janssen (Tottenham) - 34.69km/h

Kyle Walker (Tottenham) - 35.18km/h

Jamie Vardy (Leicester) - 34.78km/h (Trivia: the highest top speed he's ever recorded is 35.44km/h)

From an OPTA stat of top speeds recorded in the Premier League this year, some of you have some terrible misconceptions.

Now, of course this doesn't mean that he's quick off the mark or anything like that, but saying that he's a terrible athlete is a bit harsh if you also factor in his body strength. Now if we could only get him to use it correctly instead of always being offside or pushing back the defender so hard he ends up losing balance..

Honestly those stats may be correct but I just don't believe them. Those other players mentioned are all rapid, Vardy on the halfway will burn most defenders in a footrace towards goal. I don't see it with Janssen at all, I haven't seen him burst away from one defender.

The thing is that our eyes can't register that speed quoted because within a hundredth of a second he is knackered at that pace. Fucking huffing and puffing as he is running on the pitch

Yeah, he doesn't have the acceleration, I don't deny that. I just put that out there to refute everyone saying he's a terrible athlete.

He's got serious potential, even on the athletic side, just give Poch and his training staff some time to work their magic, just look at how Lamela has changed from a skinny, weak player into a pretty sturdy, strong and hard working one.

Even if I have no idea how hard AZ work their players, it wouldn't surprise me if Poch's regime is quite a bit harder.

I'm really interested to see how he plays for Holland in the International break. Might try to find their game somewhere. They play Belgium first which is a good test, up against Vertonghen (provided Verts isn't just shoved out left as per usual). The next game against Luxembourg is on Sky.

Just want to see how he's played with the national team. Whether it's as a lone striker or part of some other set up. And how he plays will be interesting. Just curious to see if it's him or the way we play him.

Felt sorry for him today.

If he'd started instead of Kane he would have scored another pen which would have completely transformed him and given him the confidence he is so desperately lacking

Everything is always so laboured with him, he's always in a battle. Seems to have trouble finding space and I'm not sure whether it's just poor timing of runs, or that he's just not athletic enough to escape the attentions of defenders.

I think he's probably carrying a bit too much weight to be a top striker in this league. I'd get him to shed some muscle in the hope of promoting greater agility and pace.

He looks more like a pulis kind of striker but a poor, unfit version of one to me. Slow, unathletic but big bodied and strong enough to hold the ball up for a while waiting for others. Carrying the perfect amount of weight for pulis ball, IMO.

If he had started we would have most likely lost the game -

its all very well saying its confidence but he offers few options up front Kane made such a difference he finds space drops off and is generally available and his only half fit. Janssen is trying so hard to engage the centre half he has almost forgotten that he needs to find space or give other options. Sadly people say he hasn't had chances but he missed a very decent chances on his debut at Everton and a sitter against Palace a very good chance at the near post against Leicester and even yesterday and though it was a very difficult chance it was a presentable one and you can't help but think and maybe its unfair that he might have been on his toes from the free kick.

If he plays badly this time next year, I'll start to scratch my cheek in a ponderous manner.
Adjusting to the league and Pochs training can take it's toll.

"But we paid so and so..."

Yeah, and he signed a five year contract, not a five month one. His attitude and the ability he's shown thus far in his career when it comes to adjusting a higher level is probably part of the reason we bought him. So fuck off.

"K."

Vocal supporter of his, but he was proper shit yesterday. Kane's movement compared to his was the key thing. Harry would have been at the post to knock in that Eriksen free kick.

Ask yourself this, if he had made this start and you had seen him play for Swansea like he has for us, would you want us to buy him?
That's not a relevant point. He's looking poor, but he's 22 and in a new league 10 games in. He needs time.
