I would imagine our players are onto a hefty bonus for reaching the Champion League places, but;

I wonder if their contract says something like top four finish or would Levy have the proviso that a team outside the top four winning means he will only pay out on top three?
Also would this affect coaching staff, physios etc re bonus's?

I bet Danny sprinted to his filing cabinet the moment Chelsea beat barca to find out.

Although I bet 4 th would have a much lower reward anyway because we would still need to qualify in a play off. They prob get the main bonus for actually getting to the champs league proper when we are guarenteed the windfall

Interesting...I would imagine that the bonuses are for finishing 4th (but, hopefully, it will be irrelevant because, firstly, we will finish 3rd, and, secondly, the Chavs will get violated in all their intimateplaces by BM).

The thing about all of this, whoever finishes fourth, and whether Chelsea win it this year or not, is that afaiac it is a real half-arsed decision by the FA. For a start, UEFA set a precedent by allowing Everton and Liverpool into the Cl when the Scousers won it (just didn't have the stomach to listen to incessant Scouse whining, I suppose, I would've just told Liverpool it was tough). Secondly, I don't believe the FA really thought the decision through. I think they didn't believe this situation would arise again (typical arrogance, how could anyone challenge the Sky 4), and it is one thing to reach an ill-thought out ruling for a situation you don't imagine willoccur, and it is another to enforce it when it will mean a club rather arbitrarily losing out on something like £30 million and, maybe losing some of their best players. And, is this a ruling that the rest of Eiropean football will have to accept, or can the individual Federations reach their own decisions?

Wouldn't surprise me if, in the evnetuality that a club did miss ut, their either contested it directly, or sought legal advice over compensation.

I admire your optimism SP.
If any of us at work were set a target in order to recieve a bonus and we reached that target we would expect that bonus to be paid regardless of some weird quirk out of our control.
If we finish fourth can you imagine our players watching CL final with maybe millions at stake between them?

Don't know that it is optimism, as such...I just don't think Dan Levy (or any other Chairman worth his salt), is gonna stand idly by and not contest such a blatantly half-arsed decision that could cost the club so much money.
I could, of course, be totally wrong...what do I know? For all I know, the FA could have a written statement that all EPL chairmen have had to accept and sign.

I said this a couple of times in threads today. Not so much if we finish 4th and the chavs win the CL. Everyone knows about that rule - been the case since the debacle of '05. However, if the 3rd place team potentially faces a play-off, and that team is us, feathers might fly.

In fact, I'd be certain they will should we get 3rd, have to qualify and, God forbid, get beaten. 3rd place an income of around £20m to £30m missed out on anyway - time to unleash some Jew-Jitsu.

Misfit I'm pretty sure 3rd place will take precedence over Winners of CL.
I can remember it was Liverpool as Winners rather than Everton that were fitted into early rounds?

It has been posted in another thread today that if Chelsea win CL that no team will have to face a play off.
As far as this thread and contracts are concerned, I saw a Chelsea contract a few years ago and all references were to Champions League qualification rather than finishing in the Top 4. That is what makes sense as that is what brings in the money. I obviously can't go into more detail

That's my understanding too. Scutch's thread might throw a fly in the ointment. As far as the prem is concerned, the top 3 and chavski would go straight into the group stages. UEFA, possibly, might beg to differ?
