Tottenham target Trevoh Chalobah does not figure in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans at Chelsea. The Blues boss has opened the door to a potential Spurs switch in the January window by informing the 24-year-old that he will not play a key part for his side going forward.

Are we actually interested or is the media simply linking us to a potentially avaiable CB because of our current shortage?

By the time the window opens, VDV should be at least close to a return, so any CB we sign in January is unlikely to get many starts this season.

I hope our management inform the 24-year-old that he will not play a key part for our side going forward.

No need for Chelsea cast-offs.

There is better out there, much, much better
I quite like him personally. Good strong tackler, decent passer, and press resistant. As the rotation option for Romero at the right price I could get behind it.

Edit: I've just looked and he's been clocked at 34kph so he's no slouch either.

We need at least 3 CBs who are able to start 20 games a season IMO.

The top teams don't worry too much about how many starts people will get.

Generate the competition and rotate to avoid fatigue and injuries.

Not saying Chalobah is necessarily the answer, but a top quality centre back should be towards the top of our list of targets in January.

He presumably hasn't played regular football for a while.

At 24 he's still got a lot of time as a centre back and looks like he fits Ange's approach.

There may be better available but I'm not surprised he's being looked at.

Poch opens the door for Spurs. Spurs see Poch and promptly walk away, middle finger extended over their heads...

Any idea of VdV's stats Trix?

There's a difference between the club / manager not caring about how many starts a player gets and that player not caring. How do you propose that we convince a "top quality" CB to join when we already have Romero & VDV?

The "big" clubs get around this with the lure of almost guaranteed trophies and by paying inflated wages. I believe Man City currently has six defenders on higher wages than our top paid defender (Romero).

FWIW I don't consider Chalobah to be a "top quality" CB. If he's wanting to leave Chelsea due to a lack of playing time, he's probably got enough common sense to know his situation wouldn't be much better here once Romero & VDV are avaialble.

Honestly, in this day and age, if players are looking to be in a 'first XI' week-in week-out at a Premier League team then they are being naive.

All of our current starting back four will have signed expecting to be regular starters, and were stepping up to a bigger club and higher wages.

For Chalobah, joining us would be a sideways move.

For a "top quality" CB, it would be more attractive to go to a big club that doesn't have a settled back four that are all relatively young. Put simply, they are likely to have better offers on the table. We probably need to settle for someone who's less proven than Romero or VDV and is currently at a smaller club than us.

I do like Chalobah, and I do feel he is a slight upgrade from Dier and Davis. plus he can slot in at DM if needed, meaning we can replace both Dier and PEH with him and open a slot on the bench for someone else. (i didn't say i prefer him to PEH, i want PEH to stay. he has grown on me.) plus that removes 2 foreign players and adds 1 home grown.

if we can get him for maybe 15M? i would be interested. but i am pretty sure we will have to pay the English premium for him.

For comparison Usain Bolt is 44.7 kph. Although he's not wearing footy boots......probably still would have won if he was

I'd take him or Lloyd Kelly. Both have a bit of pace, and both are decent with the ball at their feet. Not the big names people will want I suspect but a big name will reduce VDVs playing time and stifle his development.
