It's a system that certainly suits our squad. Dier, Toby and Vertonghen are all very happy to bring the ball out of defence and it allows Dier and Wanyama on the pitch together without stifling the creativity in midfield. I'd like a system where the fullback whose flank isn't attacking stays a bit further back to keep the backline solid, unless we are under no threat. It may lead to more opportunities for Winks to partner Wanyama or Dembele as well. It also keeps a lot of big name players happy.

If the fullbacks are forward, it's surely Wanyama that fills in?

I don't accept that this system is more risky than a 4-2-3-1

It's a case of practice and dicipline makes perfect.

Wow - I thought we struggled actually to support Harry Kane with this system. In the first half, there were times when Sissoko was in the middle, Alli out on the left, Walker had the ball on the right with no options other than back in towards Wanyama or Eriksen in the middle.

Thought we definitely 'got it' in the second half when we looked really at it but thought had we played 3 behind Kane we may have opened them up more through the middle also than having to rely only on our wingbacks

Playing Walker and Rose as wingbacks is a no brainer, especially when we don't have any other wide players (apart from N'Koudou, who Poch doesn't seem to rate). With this formation, I'd fancy us against any team in the league.

Surely this is no different to the formation we played last year. We played a 4-2-3-1 and when the Fullbacks pushed forward, Dier dropped in to defence, leaving 3 at the back?

Exactly right, though people will point out Wanyama is not needed infront of Dier then

Not sure having more defenders on the pitch is a good thing against the likes of hull tbh. If teams are defending in numbers against us surely it would be better with 4 at the back and walker and rose playing as wing backs anyway
