SSN reporting that Lukas Podolski has requested a transfer from Bayern Munich in the next transfer window.

I know he hardly ever gets a start for Bayern but always seems to play well for Germany when i see him.
His old club FC Koln have first option however i cant see them being able to meet the asking price, or him wanting to stay in Germany.

IF he leaves where do we think he is likely to end up??

Would love to sign him, was amazing in the world cup and euro's. Already shown he can perform on the big stage and with Harry's arm around him I think he would blossom in the prem.. With Man U being able to recall Campbell in Jan, I think we would need another striker and podolski would be a cheaper and younger alternative to arshavin..

So he is German/Polish......if we signed him he could either be our new Klinsmann or our new Rasiak

Where will he end up? Anywhere but Spurs, I hope.

There's a good reason he rarely gets a start for Bayern. He's useless.

Rafael Honigstein told me that he might end up at City a few months back. We'll see what he has to say in the Pod and in his column this week.

Personally, he provides City with nothing. He would provide us with less. Gomez or Helmes have the combination of strenght and speed to make in England, but I think Podlski will find it very hard to adapt. He should return to Koln where he could be the diva he so desperately wants to be, and could probably form a solid combo with Novakovic or at least replace the average Ehret on the left in their 4-3-3/4-5-1. Werder Bremen would be the perfect place for him though.

That is weak for one of the most intelligent posters on these boards. He's not for us, but Podolski is far from useless. The right system in the right league and he is brilliant.

And by the way, not one of our players would even see the subs bench at Bayern Munich (well maybe Modric). So how useless are we? Sosa and Breno rarely play for them and would be instant starters for us. I would imagine that one day of Gomes would even see Rensing become admired. If he weren't getting a look at Cottbus, your argument would be valid, but Bayern Munich?

Santa cruz was just as 'useless' at Bayern and look where that got him, with the right manager behind him and a good run in the team podolski can be just as good as he was in the euro's and the world cup..

At his most effective, when playing for germany, as a kinda hybrid left-winger/striker.

Wait a minute, ain't Dos Santos a hybrid left-winger/striker:shrug:

So he ain't been a success as a striker, he wouldn't really be a success as an out-and-out winger (IMHO). That restricts the options, somewhat. And if we were only to play a system that benefitted him, wouldn't we be better paying Dos Santos.

So, what, we are gonna spend a fortune on a player who's shown his level, in general, adn specifically would just be cover for Dos Santos:shrug:

I could be wrong...

First of all i dont think hoeness will let him go in january... the bayern-podolski story goes on since he signed for them and every transfer window there are speculations where he might end, but at the end he will still be a bayer.

As for his skill: in my opinion he is already on same level as bent, and thats not meaning i dont rate bent, but podolski is just a terrific player at only 23 years.

Except for 2 or 3 games he never played a whole game, but came in as sub sometime in the second half, and i bet if you would check his time played and his provided goals and assists he wouldnt be anywhere far than bent, except for his assists created, im pretty sure creates at least half as much assists as he does goals.

i do agree that we dont need him right now, but to think that hes useless is a bit small minded.

A strange player, maybe a move abroad would revitalize his career like it did for Santa Cruz. I seem to remember Santa Cruz looking crap for Bayern, yet everytime I've seen him play for Blackburn he looks very dangerous. Podolski I shouldn't imagine would be sold on the cheap, despite his meagre club return he is an internationally recognized striker.

Do we need him now Pav and Campbell have settled?

Which was decent, no more, unless you're particularly easily impressed. Why don't we sign Healy? He's absolutely awesome in internationals.

There's a major difference between Santa Cruz and Podolski. Santa Cruz cost peanuts, Podi will set any takers back the thick end of £20m. That's an awful lot of dosh for a bench-warmer who's been consistently underwhelming for his club. Have you actually seen him play for Bayern?

Yes Healy was 2nd top goal scorer in the World Cup wasnt he? I was talking about the World Cup and Euros and not the qualifiers where you meet the likes of san marino and estonia.. Podolski proved himself at koln too (1 in 2), so no he's not just an international player by any means (if given the chance).. Besides if we signed a player based on international capabilities it wouldnt be for the first time coz i swear modric and pavlyuchenko were signed based on their national team performances and they didnt turn out that bad..

Well my Santa Cruz example was based on the quote: 'There's a good reason he rarely gets a start for Bayern. He's useless.' So if bayern thought santa cruz was exceptionally good he wouldnt have ended up at blackburn and ofcourse santa cruz's goalscoring record was equally as poor as podolski's 1 in 5.(and podolski isnt an out and out striker like santa cruz)..

Obviously Podolski will not come cheap, but he's younger and cheaper than arshavin and can provide us with a viable option on the left and as a supporting striker and will get goals and provide assists..

Podolski had a great scoring record for Köln when they were in Bundesliga 2. A sort of German Nugent.
