Top 4 usually requires right above 70 points. We are on scedule to 72-77.

Many claims it would take 75 to get CL this year, and that may be true, but I personally believe 72-73 is enough as usual.

First: can Arsenal or the other top 3 be caught?

It's 48 points left potentially and we know that we are gonna drop points. Lets assume we carry on taking almost 2 points per game; leaving us with 76 points. Arsenal already have 51 wich means they need 25 points from 16 games. Of course they'll get that!

Chelsea and city will also be out of reach.

Second: let's look at manu:
Having only 37 points gives them a Max potential of 85 points. This means they can only dropp 9-10 points to be safe within top 4. Not gonna happen. If they drop 13-15 it is still a chance. They have already played 2 of the top 9. They have arsenal, everton, newcastle and Southampton away: Even title contenders Expect to lose 6-8 points from those.
They have city and Liverpool at home- should at least drop 2 points. Thats 6 games and 8-10 points dropped. In the remaing 10 games they must win 8 to have a chance at CL.

Our max potential is 91 points. If we win 11 of 16 games we are safely in the top 4. This also apllies for Liverpool and everton of course.

Win 2 and lose 1 the rest of the season or win at home and draw away!

We need 70 to give us any chance at all. 75 would all but guarantee it. Anything in between is in the balance.

Wouldn't surprise me if 75 points were needed to get Top Four this season.

Yup with all the top sides beating all the bottom sides I think the top four will have a big points total by the end of the season.

So unless Everton or Liverpool start dropping serious points, I think 75 is the minimum we'll need.

Goal difference could be key... :nailbiting:

I posted at the start of the season that we would need at least 74 pts to qualify for the CL due to the growing disparity in strength between the top and bottom clubs. In addition there has been a dearth of draws in the Premiership this season which has raised the bar by a couple of points as well.

Everton and Liverpool not having European commitments has helped them a lot. Our deep squad has helped us. Despite what premiership history tells us 72 or 73 points will not get CL qualification this season. There are only 3 mid table teams who will take points off the CL on any regular basis (Newcastle and Southampton & WBA). The rest are all relegation candidates who will get the rare freak result but roll over most of the time.

Who cares as long as the team keeps going in the right direction. And yes TS, has praise in that... Still don't like the twonk though.

I feel if you start putting points down on the table, it starts to become peoples expectations, which the in turn governs how they feel about a manager and a circle begins when those expectations are not met...

So unless we get 85 points, TS can F-off.... :D... joking :cautious:...... No really I am :shifty:

Here follows a complete bullshit prediction taken out of thin air. (So thin, my head is spinning).
Everton will firmly end on 70 points
ManUtd will get their act together somewhat, and beat Everton with 1 or 2 points.
Arsenal will crumble a bit by the end of March, but not enough to loose out on 3rd, following Chelsea on 2nd and ManC on 1st. Well done.
That leaves....Spurs and Liverpool. Both will finish with either 73 or 74 points, and we will most likely have to beat them in Liverpool because of our goal difference.
This results in..... A 4th to Spurs.

I still can't see us making more than 67/68 points because all the other top teams appear to be able to beat us. Our only hope is to win every single game against the rest since I believe that it will take 74/75 pts for 4th place...and 36pts might keep teams from relegation

I like your theory, and think you might be spot on!

The game between us and Liverpool will be a decider, but I also have a nice feeling that a draw will do for us.

The next game VS city is such a bonus! If we get 1 point there, Liverpool will have to play United and City and come out with 4 points to match our results.

Also I have a sneeky feeling that Liverpool are a bit down on form currently and may not Win against Everton.

If we are in front or equal to Liverpool after the next round I would count us as favourites.

And maybe I'm stupid, but I still don't count Everton as real threats.

We drew against Chelsea, (a match in which it wouldn't have been robbery if we won), drew against Everton (a match in which it wouldn't have been robbery if we won), beat ManUtd (perhaps slightly lucky). I fancy our chances vs. anyone, whilst completely expecting a loss (of points) in most of the future top-competition matches.

i think we are building a momentum we haven't had previously; our away form is red hot; we've got a large squad when the injuries pile up - it could be our year (y)

we'll get at least 2 PPG from the remaining 16 games so 75 points at least

hope that is enough for 3rd

As long as Baines and Suarez both pick up season-ending injuries in their derby we will be fine.

Does anywhere post a table of Goal Difference over the last (say) 6 matches?
