I am a bit perplexed by this one .

For the very first time I am getting the impression that D.L. really is serious about blocking the exit of one our best players and not just angling for more money .

Does anyone have an incline of what is going to happen or are you all as uncertain as me ?

Don't mean to criticise your thread, but what is the point of the poll since none of us really can know the likely outcome at present?

I dont believe the club will allow Modric to move this summer, simple fact is the length of his contract. How much would he be worth next summer?

Irrespective of finishing top 4 next season his value isnt going to drop.

Its got Ronaldo at Man U written all over it i think, he wont stay for the rest of his career, but we'll get 12 months to find a replacement if we dont get champs league, and probably get to keep him beyond next summer if we do.

Does there have to be a point? It's just asking for opinions...and you DO mean to criticise the thread or you wouldn't have posted that comment :)

The contrast with what Levy said over Berbatov and Keane is stark. Even at 45-50 million, he'd look a fool, and there's no indication that Chelsea or Man United want to spend that sort of money.

^ Indeed. If he's sold Levy will lose all credibility, especially with the Berbatov/Carrick/Keane history, the now curious lack of NDP viability and the failed OS bid (althoughh he obviously can't be blamed solely for the last one)...let alone the two bungled transfer windows.

This is the chairman's defining moment IMO. It's the summer to show that he still means business and he's not going to allow a return to mediocrity. If he fails with either Modric or summer signings then it will begin to make his position untenable IMO. He has been great for us in many ways, but he has also made mistakes. As every it's not black and white like some would have us believe, it's pros and cons. At present the pros outweigh the cons, however I think if this summer goes tits up and he loses said credibility then the cons will begin to outweigh the pros IMO. That said, in the event that such a thing should happen I wonder what the alternative is. So we may find ourselves continuing forward as a mid-table side under a chairman we have no faith in.

These next few months will tell us all we need to know about the stewardship of our beloved club. Come on Daniel, you know you can do it.

I've been busy the past week and so haven't managed to get on so I'm sure it has been said on at least one occassion but I feel this display from Modric which of course none of us wanted to see could actually be the best thing to happen to Spurs this transfer window but it could easily be the worst.

On one hand Luka has pretty much come out and made it public knowledge like Torres did at Liverpool that he personally does not believe he can win EPL titles and such at his current club with the squad / staff / club in general. This is of course not great for the clubs image and so now we are at a make or break moment.

This make or break moment is down to Levy. He has come out and said what every Spurs fan wanted to hear but did he really mean it. Has he said this to keep Spurs happy and will go on to sell Modric in what has just been a ploy to ensure we recieve a substantual amount for the sale of Luka or does he mean business.
If he seriously means business then this is fantastic for us. Along with the comments from Redknapp saying we would potentially be mid-table without him this could now become a statement for what we really want to achieve as a club.

If everything is good as Levy means business then we will buy top players and make a statement to Luka and also other potentially now concerned players that we have an ambition to win every competition that we enter and we will not be held to ransom by clubs that are currently in a position to do this.

With any luck we will announce a signing within the next week which will signal our intent. How ever the only recent links and such I have seen which I believe are realistic is the signing of Leandro Damiao which although he is a good signing with potential he will not be a marquee signing to convince Luka of our ambition.

Important times at the Lane and Levy must act right as this is make or break.

He will definiately leave next summer, IF we don't make the Champions League.

No specifically, but "I want to join Chelsea" isn't that far off is it?

He also added if the quotes are to be believed, that he didn`t want to leave Spurs just for the sake of leaving....a modicum of hope perhaps?....

He'll stay until the membership renewal deadline of 24 June, then he'll be offski. Too cynical?

It's as if sometimes people can't put the pieces together so instead of seeing what's happening they're stuck with having to react to what people say.

Anyway, there's no doubt in my mind that Modric will be with us next season. Levy wasn't needed to come out and confirm that. The circumstance speaks for itself.

As far as I can see....Modric is just being 'quoted' again and again....but there is just a vague reference to anything tangiable? Levi is, for once, playing a blinder (as far as we can see) and, perhaps he REALLY wants to do something at WHL...(with Harry? No chance?) so, perhaps we will build and, finally, challenge the Manure, Manshity, Arsehole, Chelski...? The time to return to the 60's 70's has come (and I am feeling re-awoken, like a Vampire haha). Holding on to Moders and strengthing in a few extra areas (Defoe and Crouch OUT) can see us improve?
Nothing is ever clear...in the EPL...so no matter what we say or do....we are powerless, for the most part? Heads down and legs tucked IN...for the Ride of Rides? COYS!

Levy painted himself into a corner with his statement. He can really back down from that position. But he's too smart not to know what he was doing. He knows all the possible plays from here on out. I think he knows Modric isn't the sort to strike (which is the only way he'll force a move). My worry is someone in the Modric camp or the other side will make him do something he might not otherwise consider.

I think he's totally banking on the fact that Modric wont force the move and Modric has even supported this with his comments in the media.

So did modric actually say he wants to leave

‘I want to leave Tottenham as friends. I have enjoyed my time there, but now it is right for me to look at another club.'

So he wants to go, but I can't see Levy allowing it after his letter and Harry's comments in the media.

It would be nice to think of this as a well planned sting that will result in Chelsea being docked points, but sadly the FA are too weak to make that realistic.
