It's pretty common on the last day of the season for clubs to wear their new shirt, don't recall whether it has happened when they have changed sponsors before though. Certainly not been done as early as the semi's before to my knowledge.

Isn't that only when a team is keeping the same shirt maker/sponsor though?

Not sure, unless I'm remembering wrong, when we changed from Pony to Adidas, we wore the new Adidas shirt in the final home game of the season against Chelsea which we drew 2-2, then wore the Pony shirt again for the final game which was away.
