Any sports psychologists out there?

I reckon this should help with team spirit - triumph against adversity etc etc....

It would have been boring if we'd just won 1-0 anyway...

The big positive of tonight is that it's steak and blowjob night.

And we're through to the last 8.

Good times.

That was hellish.... I really hope that performance hasn't destroyed us we were shattered at the end.

Personally I think that performance will have bonded the players more, and taken complacence from thougth we had to roll weave hang on and deliver our own sucker punch...to win that game Tottenham team gone back would have given up.

A few more positives:

1. No more injuries.
2. Lennon is back.
3. Dembele is unbelievably class, even if he doesn't track back properly every now and then.
4. Ade finally justified his wages.... Ok, that just isn't true, but at least he got a goal.
5. Siggy has earned his place in the team for a while longer even if he is looking knackered.

And finally! We are definitely not a one man team... no seriously, we are clearly a five man team...

Lloris
Verts
Lennon Dembele
Bale

I reckon we'd destroy anyone at 5 a side! (y)

Only one of the teams to get an away goal, and knocked them out in front of their own fans. All five of them.

Agree with all of that - nice one Bomber! (y)

Dembele looks an absolute beast at the moment, really good to see!

Just a few points regarding tonight's match. I know lots of you are fuming and some of the ratings in the ratings thread are way OTT, but I don't think it was as bad as people think.

Firstly, there's no way we would've lost 4-1 if we hadn't won 3-0 at home. There may have been a couple of odd decisions re our formation, but it's weird defending a good lead from a first leg, and a perfect very recent example of how even the best teams in the world sometimes struggle with that was Bayern (and they were at home!). And to a certain extent, Milan. Yes we lost 4-1, but we didn't have to try to get any back when we were 1 or 2 down.

Secondly, we actually won. How many Spurs teams in the past would've completely crumbled and lost 5-3 or something. When we actually came out for extra time, we completely dominated the first half of it, with good attacking football. It could've been so different so it's worth considering that this team, despite not playing well, has real backbone.

Thirdly, Dembele is showing his early season form... and then some! He could be a real worldy sooner rather than later.

Fourthly, for those worried (rightly) about Sunday, Lloris, Dawson, BAE, Lennon and Bale will all return, so we should be brighter than most would think. Lloris will clear 90% of the through balls!

Fifthly, we're not Chelsea. And we're not managed by a fat cretin.

Sixthly, Yes we're knackered, yes we got through by the skin of our teeth, yes we didn't perform as we could've, but we're through to the quarter finals of the Europa and Arsenal & Hammers fans will secretly be gutted at our progress. History will show we beat Lyon and Inter to progress. That's pretty good stuff.

There were a few negatives tonight but I thought I'd mention some of the positives I thought were there. This isn't a rallying call thread, I won't end it with a cliche like 'in AVB we trust' or 'To Dare Is To Do'. I'll end it with 'I Like Shepherd's Pie'. Because I do.

I like shepherd's pie.

In shepherd's pie we trust.

No one got stabbed last night
Inter fans know how we feel when we snatch defeat from the jaws of victory
Gallas got on the scoresheet
Nobody on our team got an assist for one of the goals we conceded. That's progress.

Two other things...

We didn't just beat them over two legs, we beat them over 90 minutes in London, and 120 minutes in Italy. Everything swung in their favour and we still emerged as winners.

The other thing is that it was the opposite of Arsenal's performances. They were hammered at home and very nearly pulled off a remarkable comeback. We hammered Inter at home and very nearly had a spectacular collapse. Only one of those teams can still win a European trophy this season. I know which group of supporters should feel happier.
