Tottenham are reportedly one of ‘several clubs’ that are ready to sign Jota from Al-Ittihad in January as his summer move to the club hasn’t worked out.

Jota was a member of the European exodus to the Saudi Pro League in the summer, along with the likes of Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante. The forward left Celtic on a high, having scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists last season as they won the title.

Could be a good rotation option for us. Obviously not wanted in Saudi and not really sure why.

Squad player on a free transfer to allow for spends in other priority positions, namely CB.

This is the type of transfer which makes so much more sense then dropping circa £30m on a Bergwijn type signing.

Good business assuming Ange is keen and Jota has a clearly defined role within the squad.

Not sure how he will be on a free when he's only just signed for them in a £25m deal

One way to look at it, and not averse to him, but I think we already have a few quite good players in that position and could do with more of a superstar to take us up a level.

I trust Ange to know whether he's what we need.

Check the headlines surrounding his transfer since he signed. Most news outlets reporting a contract cancellation. Player and club sound keen on parting ways asap.

There are rumours that he isn’t a good fit lifestyle wise. Players really should be more careful about where they move to, unsurprisingly he’s a Mendes client, so no doubt he had his arm twisted to move to KSA as Mendes got dollar signs in his eyes.

I guess he could argue sporting just cause, but that is going to take months of legal action I suspect, unless the Saudis are happy to just write off £25m.

Put the situation in Saudi aside, getting a 24 year old who already has a rapport with the boss wouldn't be a bad move, if we're planning on Europe next year, with the extra games that will bring.

Not seem him play but, from a box ticking exercise, I like the idea.

Put aside everything you think you know about the law when talking about Saudi Arabia. Its totally different there and a legal minefield when in a jam....
... unless of course you do know better than me in which case I apologise.

oh god no, I know nothing of Saudi anything, especially any domestic labour law/regs. From a FIFA perspective, I thihk a player can try and terminate if there is sporting just cause. It appears there is a limit to foreigners in the Saudi league and Jota's club has exceeded this by 1 player (who was brought in after Jota signed). As Jota hasn't therefore been able to be registered, I'd say he has a shout. Although I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

Did They sign a load of players after, and couldn’t register him?

yeah. They signed Luiz Felipe on deadline day so they had 1 too many foreign players that they could register. So they decided to exclude him!

I trust Ange to know whether he'd be a good fit for us. He seemed to fit in well at Celtic. EPL would be a step up but again, Ange should be well placed to judge if he can make it.

He was very good at Celtic and their fans rave about him. I personally think this would be a great signing and would offer us something different.
