Against it.

Anything that sees Ashcroft's stock rise here (again) is a bad thing.

Ask Dan. No.

I'd rather have Chris Hughton.

So would I. At Birmingham that his success at Newcastle was no fluke. A positive scenario IMHO would be Harry staying another 3-4 seasons, Hughton being a success at Birmingham then being ready to take over at Tottenham

I wouldn't want Chris Hughton back with us because of the disgrace treatment he got from a section of our fans last time he was with us, he deserved a lot better. I am really pleased for him and he's shown up all those people who thought he was stupid and couldn't coach.

Was just about to remark how his stock seems to have risen rapidly. A long way from all "What does he actually do?", "It's gotta to be his fault" bollox that grew during Jol's final 12 months or so.

Not sure he'd be my choice for the top job, mind.

apparently Wolves have approached Brighton for permission to speak to Poyet. Would think a job such as that is more likely than a jump to a CL team

Would be odd as they said they wanted a proven PL manager.

5Live saying that they were turned down by Hughton and Benitez last week.

No thanks.

Although we'd get some great ITK from Mr Ashcroft again...

As it gradually transpired that Poyet wasn't—by his own admission—party to Ramos' tactical decisions, never mind transfer targets, and was entirely unaware that Keane had been tapped up, I doubt it.

What we also didn't hear from 'Desperate' Dan (apart from the frank and lively exchange of views between Poyet and Keano at the summer training camp) was that he's thick as thieves with Tony 'Mr Fixit' Jimenez, the ex-Chelsea security guard who got into property and brokered Ramos' move to Spurs. Jimenez is also very close to Fatso Kemsley, Mike Ashley and Dennis Wise.

Those are some seriously dubious connections, and seriously good reasons why Poyet should not be allowed within a country mile of Spurs.

I wasn't aware of that...what exactly happened?

Basically what Misfit said when we went through a bad patch a lot of people were saying he does nothing but hold a clipboard, calling him clipboard Chris, saying that he can't coach etc and when he left it was "good riddance". A total lack of disrespect for a man who gave many years service as a player and as a coach.

There was far too much disrespect, I thought.

I'm sure both Hughton and Poyet are good managers in their own right however I'm not sure they have been at their respective clubs long enough for us to judge how they deal with a difficult situation or the success of their transfer dealings over a period of time. Hughton's transfers especially have been somewhat forced since Birminghams relegation. If we look at our own signings, players like Bae have only been considered a unanimous success in the last 2 -3 seasons. So I think both require time before they can be judged.

Having said that whether either are worth a gamble is a different question.

Not sure he'd go to Wolves tbh.

I think the Owen Coyle and Roberto Martinez situations have been a reminder that moving from an upwardly mobile championship club to a struggling PL isn't necessarily a good career move for a young manager (compared to say Brendon Rogers and Paul Lambert).

His family are also very settled in the south (Orpington) - they didn't properly relocate to Leeds when he was up there with Wise and the location of the Brighton job was a big reason he chose that particular club.

IMO he'll stay and have a proper promotion attempt with Brighton next season.

But was there any real unrest against Chris H other than Gibbsy on here doing threads about clipboards and spiceboys.
If Hughton read Spurscommunity and thought Gibbsy was a respected voice then that might have weight but I don't remember any unrest targetted at Hughton.
