It's not luck of the draw, there was a good interview on the beeb with the fixture secetary for the league a year or so ago and he said Arsenal like their first game at home which means we're away.

Take a look at first game fixtures for the last 40 years and you'll see it's something like 35-5 to arsenal. Maybe we're fine with them being home first but to be away on First, last and boxing day is a bit shit.

I don't think they have a set date for announcing it, but I agree with your recollection that last season it was late-July (later than usual).

It used to be 3 weeks after the fixtures were announced, but I think the issue of BT having some top-picks complicates matters and there's some more negotiation to be done which is why it'll prob be a month from now that the first 3 months of picks are announced.

I don't go with all this conspiracy stuff but it is tough to have Liverpool home, Arsenal away and City away in our first 8 matches. Only consolation is that we can't do worse than we did in those 3 matches last season.
