But Neville was also shrieking about it when Newcastle did it.

ManC were absolutely nothing like the ManC now two seasons ago. The only two PL sides to go there and not sit deep we’re us and Liverpool and both got absolutely hammered, and City weren’t even great against us.

Chelsea don’t have an obligation to entertain Gary Neville, and they limited City to virtually nothing, and were still in with a chance of getting something out of the hat game until the final whistle, unlike us - who Neville also called shit that day by the way.

Conte didn’t intend for Chelsea to not threaten on the counter at all, he was going mad when they wasted the ball on the odd counter, but that’s what City can do to you, they make getting out and constructing anything extremely difficult, it’s the part of their game that many ignore, the press, harry and commit technical fouls and then if you escape that you’re lucky if you’re not isolated.

Chelsea are good enough to do better on the counter but you have to put in all your effort to not letting City construct. Neville kept whining about Chelsea not charging about, but that’s the stupid way to play City. charging out and pressing by them they play quick triangles and they’re behind your first line, and then your second line and scoring.

He was criticising their all round effort and I agree with him. They wern't attempting to close the spaces more, nor where they offering each other better passing angles.

Yes City are hard to play through as they press very effectively but there is no fucking way you're going to come close to playing through them with that lack of collective effort.

And Chelsea, with the talent they have, can offer a shit load more than that and still comfortably lose to this City side.

It was lame, it really was.

To be fair his tone was very different in those two games. With Newcastle he was pointing out that all it takes is to concede one goal and their whole plan goes out of the window. When they did and they actually ventured over the half way line they looked like threatening a couple of times.

He was far more scathing of Chelsea, and quite rightly so considering they are the defending champions and their match day squad today cost over £350m. If you have such an expensively assembled squad but still shit yourself when playing Man City what's the point in even turning up? That they didn't even try and attack once they'd gone 1-0 down was utterly embarrassing for a team with the resources that Chelsea have, and Neville was bang on with it.

The Man United Liverpool game is a win win win option for us. Be it a draw or either team winning, someone will always lose points. A draw is preferable though.
The 2 games left for us which I think we won’t get any points is Chelsea And Man City. That’s 6 points, best hope Chelsea fuck up somewhere

I want Man U to win. I’d rather finish behind them than Liverpool if it has to be a choice between the two.

If it was so lame, why didn’t City carve them open repeatedly?

I’m not saying Chelsea were brilliant offensively, but the not closing space thing is just not understanding what they were doing. They were allowing City to pass themselves to oblivion in front of that first bank, because they know that City want to suck teams out of shape, if they come out and start chasing the ball around city kill them.

Think about how many chances City had against us and how many they had today. It’s not as lame as it looks. And we were much lamer because we did exactly what City want.

To answer your very first question, simply because City didn't play that well, but they didn't need to really. It was a poor game, and had City been at it they would of thumped them.

Yes I know Chelsea were sitting back and ceding possession, but they never really look determined to win the ball back and set about City quickly and aggressively.

It was just a half arsed bus they brought and City looked rather lethargic culminating into a pretty tepid and unimaginative affair.

I agree with this but I'd also point out that we had many more chances of our own against City - so it's a combination of approaches that you need I guess.

That and Kane is a far superior CF to Morata so Conte's options were more difficult.

It wasn't a poor game tactically, it was just a dull one for the neutral. For Chelsea to stand a chance the best thing they could do was make it as boring as fuck for the rest of the world, stay in it and try and nick something. You say City didn't play well, but that's because Chelsea prevented them from doing what they love to do, which is get through and behind teams. ManC's average xg is 2.48, today it was 0.95. That is the second lowest they've had all season (after the Liverpool game - but even in the Liverpool game they scored 3 goals). Against us it was 4.15 and ours was only 0.18, as opposed to Chelsea's 0.12.

What Chelsea failed to do was counter attack effectively. But that's not because Conte didn't want them to, he was going nuts when they wasted their rare opportunities, he knows that with players like Hazard, Willian, Pedro, Morata, Fabregas etc he has the quality to hurt teams on the counter, it's what they often do, they just didn't get it right today, but defensively it was pretty spot on.

What we did might have looked "brave" but it wasn't, it was just tactically very stupid, and far more half arsed - we didn't press as well as Liverpool and we didn't keep our discipline like Chelsea. Which is why we lost 4-1 and it could have been 10 and Chelsea only lost 1-0 and that was over the xg.

Why do we need to keep seeing Conte get interviewed about the death of his former colleague. Both Sky and BBC fucked up

I'm gonna see if my amazing prediction run will keep going tonight, I reckon Palace will be getting their pants pulled down, can't see them getting anything from this.

I do like Carragher and Neville on MNF.

Chelsea really do deserve the criticism they’re getting. Showing Chelsea’s entire team walking around the pitch with 10 minutes to go - whilst losing - is extraordinary.

11 tackles in 90 minutes :D

Absolutely not. Have you watched us the last few months? I'm not saying we'll win either but we'll take some points out of those matches.

We won't do what Chelsea did against City. We'll come out and fight them win or lose. The tactics Conte used yesterday with the talent Chelsea had available was cowardly and pathetic.

With Chelsea, history suggests you're right, and with the way Man City are playing that'll be bloody tough as well, but I can't help but feel we're capable of getting something out of one of those games, maybe even both.

Palace going old skool 4-4-2 with two battering rams up front and just trying to get it into the box as quickly as possible, interesting to see how this will play out.
