I’ve been banging the Zaha drum for over 2 seasons now. The guy is a game changer, an absolute beast who terrifies defenders when he gets a run on them. He would be outstanding for us.

He’s one of those players that, IMO, you pay whatever it costs. If he were to come to us, he only leaves for an elite club, so you get your money back regardless.

Today is not the day to make a case for his signing. Outside of winning the penalty, he was awful. Gave the ball away numerous times, slowed down the attack to try to do a couple of stepovers and missed plenty of passes that would have sprung the Crystal Palace attack forward. If I'm being honest, it's much of the same of him. He's obviously talented, there's no doubting that, but he's still just a bit more flair than product.

abysmal penalty technique

It's a useful technique because it forces the goalkeeper to wait/think/agitate far longer than he's used to before moving, of course it you then miss it you look very silly.

I think he got the ball and i know it my not mean it was a fair challenge but such a delayed dive

Having seen the replay, your right, maybe that's why he wasn't sent off.

It's not a clever technique when you it limits your actual penalty kick and he's missed 3 this season now.

I think people ignore the whole picture when it comes to Zaha. I say exactly the same as I did last week, he's clearly got talent in abundance when it all comes together and gets a fan out of his seat, and that's plenty of times in the game where he has positive impacts, but again today you could pull up quite honestly hundreds of examples where he makes a bad choice, overplays, ignores team mates, slows the game down unnecessarily to the detriment of the move, loses the ball in bad areas etc etc.

Some might argue that under a better coach and in a better team he'd cut some of this out, but I think (could be wrong) for the very top teams he's going to end up getting used more often than not as an impact option, the flair tricky wide option that might turn a game. Because he does too many things with and without the ball that these sorts of teams just wouldn't tolerate.

And then there is the mega price that always get's quoted, and that he keeps on signing up to bumper new contracts that give Palace security on his price and giving the impression he's happy being the big fish in the small pond. I can see why teams keep passing him over and no one has ever really seriously looked at him again. Lucas Moura for us, as an example, is the same type of player at half or maybe a third of the price. I just don't see enough value in his signing for the teams at the top, as it stands.

You couldn’t be more spot on.

Everton seem toothless up front - should be at least level or even up on manure

Actually on second glance, certainly not a penalty. Martial proper dived after the event, was he entitled to go down? perhaps but wasnt a penalty as he could have clearly stayed on his feet

Amazing how two people can see a game and a performance differently. Zaha had Arsenal at panic stations every time he went forward with the ball. With a bit more protection from the ref, he’d have had Lichtsteiner sent off for multiple fouls that he drew when in dangerous positions.

I’d hazard a guess that he’s the most consistently fouled player in the PL, because every team he plays recognises the danger he poses.

It also never ceases to amaze me how under appreciated his creativity is. I guess it’s because of the wastefulness of those players around him. Put a decent striker, or strikeforce more pertinently, around him and his assist stats would skyrocket imo.

I don’t expect everyone to agree with me, don’t really care either way. Only one other SCer agreed with me when I harped on about playing Lamela through the middle, I got laughed at by more than a few. I got pelters for backing Danny Rose when he came back from Sunderland. Got laughed at when I backed the Disco Benny signing.

I’m 100% certain that Zaha would be absolutely fantastic for us if we signed him, whatever the price is or needs to be.

As far as I’m concerned every day is a good day to make a case for his signing whether you agree or not.

United look a lot better without Lukaku. Either that or Everton are more dogshit than I thought.
