Ah, he slapped Barton. Thought the red was for the dive.

Barton and Taylor are idiots and Gervinho will learn fast.

Ha Ha Barton up to his old tricks. Glad he got him sent off though! :)

Arsenal really are falling apart - Gervinho sent off, Song should be banned retrospectively, Wilshere injured, Diaby injured, Fabregas and Nasri off. A team that plays a man midfield will be down to Walcott, Ramsey, Rosicky, Arshavin and the new kid chamberlain!! Comedy!

Haha, exactly why I never wanted Barton in a Spurs shirt to be honest.

It is funny watching him doing it against Arsenal though, and getting Gervinho sent off

Probably should of been a yellow each, Barton squared up to Gervinho, but Gervinho did react aggressively. Barton did overreact, to what was a arm in his face. Barton should of been sent off with Gervinho.

Both should probably have been sent off, but you've got to love Joey Barton, he saw that the match was getting really dull and did his best to liven it up

It was a slap to the face. As soon as that happens the ref only has one option and that is a red card.

I think Barton was unfairly booked. He was helping the Arsenal chap up on his feet and got a smack in the head for his troubles. Gervinho is an ungrateful scummy bastard and well suited to Arsenal.

There's a difference between "helping a man to his feet" and "grabbing him by the shirt and dragging him up while shouting obscenities at him" as was the case here. Gervinho did dive, Barton being angry is understandable, but you're not supposed to lay hands on an opponent.

I agree to a degree. It was not a slap, more like a touch, the intent was there however. And he did also should of been two yellows anyway. In all honesty it could of finished with a whole lot of different conclusions.

"With intent" says it all really. Even a slap that misses should be penalised with a red card if it was with intent.

FT, 0-0. Well done to the lads from the North East today!

If the ref done his job in the first place and booked Gervinho for diving none of that would have happened.

Anyway, despite not playing this weekend, we've won. Our two main rivals for 4th have dropped points and have looked quite poor too. If Utd, Chelsea or City drop points then it's been a really great weekend.

Should've been a red card for both really.

BTW, this was an absolutely dreadful match

Oh yea, absolutely shocking. Newcastle aren't very good this year, that much was obvious, but Arsenal seemed to have even less end product than I've ever seen them have before. Nobody wanted to take a shot when they were in a decent position.
