Jesus, at least they got a goal. Everton do have some form for being hammered by Arsenal.

I remember we hammered them in the first game at Goodison in 1984(1-4), and they went on to win the league. A very different time.

Arsenal did well, took their chances and made the most of everything they were given, but Everton were absolutely dreadful.

Everton always start poorly, and then start to grind teams down as the season wears on.

I reckon City will be damn near unbeatable at home though, and away they'll improve as they gel as a team. Plus Given like he did today will win them so many points against the kind of opposition they faced today. BTW I was also watching the game.

Eduardo with the sixth. Got to acknowledge that, he hasn't played in the league for 18 months and has done so well to get back from that injury. But Arshavin was again allowed to do whatever he wanted to do inside the box. No closing down or tackling at all. Shambolic.
Would you agree that today they looked rather mid-table? Their home form is usually very convincing, but all the top 4 beat them there(apart from Arse, who were under-going a mini-crisis) last season, and they need a commanding CB, and a lot of work on their defensive unit, to change that.

everton missed their best defender jagielka and their best player in arteta, mix that with all the fuss about lescott and an on fire arsenal as shown from their pre-season as your opponent and it was a disaster bound to happen.

I think they're fine tbh, might be an idea to play de Jong and Barry in front of the back four and drop one attacking player for difficult away games (like this one) to add stability, but they will be a more stable, homogenous unit when the players they have get a few weeks to gel. They got a win at a difficult ground today and I see no reason why they won't challenge the top 4.

we've seen it all before from them. bright starts but they fade away. fantastic performance but you only get 3points. Maybe they will keep their top4 place but its way too early to judge

Arsenal won't win the league.
They will struggle to keep fourth this year.

You need 7 to 8 rounds to see the league clearly. And even more than that.

After a couple of games last year Man Utd were in the bottom half, Spurs bottom, Hull at the top, etc.

Hence Wenger's proposal that you should get extra points for scoring more than 3 or 4 goals away from home.

I think Arse will be second/third since they have more than enough firepower (and bendtner will have a good season imo) and Citeh will be challenging for fourth - they should be able to strengthen again in Jan. Manyoo were shaky at points last season and i don't think Owen will do well; Chelsea will be fine, Liverpool's form will depend on how they cope without Alonso and if they retain their confidence from last season.

Everton  :( granted, they were awful at the start of last season too, though we totally overshadowed them - missing arteta certainly doesn't help when your squad is so small.

Villa will struggle without signings soon; it will be underachieving if we finish below them.

Arsenal won't win the league simply because they lack the squad depth and consistency. They might beat the likes of Everton by five goals but they will drop points against the lower quality teams like Bolton and Burnley.

I don't see City breaking into the top four, in fact, I can't see them in the top five. They are in a similar situation that we were a few seasons back. Expectations will be their downfall. If they don't hit the ground running then Mark Hughes is gone. Another problem is keeping everyone happy. It is going to be hard to rotate Dunne, Toure, Ben Haim, Lescott (if they get him), Bellamy, Tevez, Benjani, Robinho, Santa Cruz and Adebayor.
