Just wondering as I can't see one yet, would it be an idea to have a separate thread for general chat about the football at the World Cup? I think it's really important to keep the discussion going around Qatar and its unsuitability to host the tournament, the human rights abuses, and general corruption involved but worry that it'll get lost and hard to maintain if its interrupted by pages of match chat and complaints about VAR.

What time is the first game?
Very much depends where you are watching from , 1 st game is Sunday 15:00 UK time , 1st England game Monday at 13:00 wonder how many will report in sick on Monday morning.

Predicted temperature next week in Qatar is 29C/84F, looks like climate change will mean a walking pace world cup.

I am one of those who will not be watching in any capacity - nor reading about it.

As you are probably aware I put up threads/links/fixture posts etc for domestic competitions but I am not going to do anything for this one at all. I'm not bigging myself up for doing so, I just like doing something
that keeps my brain alive.

Hopefully someone will step up somewhere and do a thread for England and the entire show.

I will be in general football and non football chat on occasion for the next six weeks or so.

That's fair enough, I'm sure a lot of people will either be switching off or being far less enthused about the whole thing. I know I'm not feeling the same excitement as usual. It all just feels wrong. Wrong country, wrong time of year.

It doesnt feel like a World Cup and not sure because we only had football three days ago so there isnt that length of time to actually miss and look forward to football OR because its a shit show of a tournament with the outside factors to take into account. Very strange but this is certainly the least world cup feeling I have had.

World Cups and Euros in my house usually involve BBQs. I cant get it to light as it will not stop pissing down and it will be taters next week....

I'm still somewhat excited for the actual football. I may be in the minority with that, though.

That’s an interesting breakdown, have never seen the players all together like that.

I would say changing of nationalities has become far too easy and players are doing strategic choices based on playing time rather than national belonging. Cash had never been to Poland and only spoke a few words of Polish by the time he played his first game there.

Cash would have obviously played for England had not the RB position been the strongest in the squad. Lamptey have done the same and will play for Ghana at the WC and our very own Spence could play for Jamaica in the future should he want to.

You have to feel sorry for the players being kept out of their national team's squads because of technicalities used to shoehorn these players in there.

There will be both a Polish and a Ghanaian right-back who have worked their socks off for the last 4 years left at home because these guys who probably couldn't give a shit about the countries they represent have grandparents who were born there.
