without wanting to be shot here can anyone actually explain the logic in letting corluka, pienaar & pav go when we are actively in the hunt for our first league title since 1961??

i mean granted they may not have played a lot but the club should have come first in this instance....our bench tonight was just unbelievable & weve brought it upon ourselves!!

for the good of the club they should have stayed until the end of the season imo...

i just dont get why we caved in & let them go to be replced by khumalo, luongo & lancaster??...

as good as these lads may turn out to be (& i was impressed with lancasters cameo the other night tbf)....we are right in the thick of a title push at best & hopefully an automatic champions league spot at worst?

baffles me

I can understand us letting Pav go, and getting in Saha, but the Corluka and Pienaar deals weakened the squad. No question about it.

All were desperate to leave, we should have only let Corluka go IMO, we have Walker and Kaboul ahead of him.

Letting Corluka, Bassong and Pienaar move was a mistake certainly. We lose 3 solid performers and only cover with Nelsen who hasn't played all season.

Apparently Corluka begged to go out on loan. Pav flared up on the training ground as deadline drew nearer and Levy relented on the price being asked so that we got shot of a player never destined to be a long termer where this team is going. As for Pienaar, having been injured for most of his tenure with us, he needs first team regular action and Harry relented, even though we couldn't get Krasic.

Ultimately was it does mean is that our promising kids get some opportunities to step up in to the men's world.

well i did say our activity was clownshoes and risky when the window closed but alot of people thought it was great business to let unhappy players go mid season. so there you go

Corluka is the only player we lack cover for.

Pienaar doesnt need replacing, we have 11 players in the first team squad who can play in midfield, thats before we even get to the youngsters. we have 4 or 5 out injured right now but im sure we can cope for a week or two.

There was no point in blooding the youngsters in the Uefa Cup and letting them go out on loan when you let senior squad players also go out on loan and replace them in the squad with inexperienced kids.

Our squad has been weakened, partly by injuries, partly by letting too many players leave on loan.

Saha for Pav is an upgrade, unquestionably IMO.

Can accept Bassong for Nelsen given Harry's admission that Bassong's head was down - at least a replacement was brought in even if I'd prefer Bassong at 100% to Nelsen at 100%.

The two criminal mistakes for me were Corluka and Pienaar - fair enough if they were unhappy and wanted to go out on loan to get football, but unless we brought in adequate replacements (as opposed to, y'know, NOBODY) then we should have told them to be professional and stay with us until the summer, when we would let them look for new clubs. As Spurger King says, we are definitely weaker for letting those two go.

I'm not too fussed about the Pienaar. We have players who play in his positions, many of them.

Corluka was daft considering Naughton and Smith are out on loan.

Corluka baffled me as now we're relying on an out of form Walker to stay fit and rediscover form for the rest of the season.

Pienaar not so much. When all midfielders are fit we have Lennon, Kranjcar, Modric, Livermore, Sandro, Parker, Huddlestone and Bale competing for 4 slots and then even VDV and Rose.

Pav, we got good money for him and brought in a far better player.

That's where keeping a reserve team would (may) have allowed us have a bench with Naughton, Caulker, Townsend, Kane, Carroll. However, we'd probably not have known how good some of those kids really are going to be.
The bench may have looked weak tonight but I don't think it effected the result. If having those players gone has improved moral and we've got Lennon, Defoe, VdV, Sandro and Kaboul back for the next match, we'll be wondering why someone bothered starting this thread.

how is walker out of form?? He hardly put a foot wrong def tonight. Going forward is an extra bonus. And he hasnt been the best going forward, but he was defencivly (sp) good tonight. imo

Can Nelsen play RB?

Loaning out pienaar does seem strange. We might have loads of midfielders but we're thin out wide. Is harry up to something with his pal moyes? First dibs on rodwell?
