Quick football rivalries survey

Just because I dislike how a club operates (Chelsea; Manchester City) or has acted historically (Arsenal) doesn't necessarily make them a rival.

Just because a club's fans are generally reprehensible (Chelsea), arrogant (Manchester United) or irritating in pretty much every way possible (Liverpool) doesn't necessarily make them a rival.

What makes a rival, for me, is proximity and shared history, and can best be measured by how wretched you feel when your team lose to them. To that end, I shared my votes between Arsenal (40), Chelsea (30) and West Ham (20).

Oh, and Wolves (10) because fuck Wolves. And Kenny Hibbitt. The cheating, diving fuck.

Arsenal are our rivals... Historically, geographically, socially, on the pitch and in the league... 100%

Chelsea are a fake, non club; West Ham wish with all their hearts they were our rivals; And other London clubs couldn't care less.

My friend if you grew up in London in the 80's and 90's, and knew nothing of geography, you would think Liverpool were a London club with the amount of gobby supporters they had. Same for United in the mid to late 90's.

Yeah, that was when there was only one game a week on TV and it was nearly always Liverpool because they were the dominant team back then.

I still don't see them as our rivals, although I can see how you might have a rivalry with a friend who supports them.

I find it hard to hate Arsenal more than the other two. Their fans are just so passive and meh and their players don't envoke any sort of emotion from me. Can't remember the last time they brought a decent atmosphere with them either.

I've always loathed Liverpool since even before recent times. The amount of decisions they would get was putting man u to shame and usually in major matches. Their fans were the only ones making anti Semitic chants outside the ground on a regular basis whenever I'd go up there, and the delusions and entitlement of the fans is unbelievable. Suarez being given support for being a racist was shambolic. (I don't attack him for the biting, as that is clearly a mental health issue.) They link everything to Hillsborough. Now Hillsborough must never be forgotten and was a horrible tragedy that transcends football, but the way they link everything they do to it is making a media circus mockery out of a tragedy. It is important that Hillsborough is remembered in the right way. I hate them so so much.

Arsenal 40 as they are our traditional rivals, (though to be completely honest, I'm starting to kinda see more eye to eye with a lot of their level headed fans but the rivalry is traditional nonetheless).

Chelsea, a club rotten from their nasty players, corrupt owner, money and violent fans from when I've been to the bridge, 30.

Liverpool 30 for reasons above.

West Ham are some yo yo club who are basically.. and now I'm bored of talking about them.

Done - really interesting that. Would like to see the results.

I put a few 1%ers down because of my age - clubs like Newcastle have been around and about us at times over the last couple of decades. Arsenal top, then I think I put something like Chelsea/West Ham/Liverpool very similar. Not surprised Liverpool are up there (a) because a lot of us lived through the 80s and (b) because we've been well-matched over the last few years fighting for the crumbs after the lottery winners. West Ham have not been well-matched at all, just the local nature.

I'd be absolutely fascinated to see what this would have looked like, say, 20 or 30 years ago. Wimbledon might have made an appearance, Leeds and Villa might be up there, Man City would have barely registered, Arsenal would probably be further ahead of Chelsea and West Ham.

Arsenal 35% Because im Spurs and it is my religion to hate them which i do.
Chelsea 35% Because im human. If it wasnt for the scum these would have got 70%.
L'pool 15% Many reasons but their belief that they are so much better than us and the press wank fest that follows them are the main ones.
WetHam 15% Im from Essex, i get stick from them daily most of the time without reason or justification. They are like a gnat buzzing around pissing you off.

It is my birthright to hate the Goons!! 90% The 10% I couldn’t give them as a pity rating for how bad they now are. So gave that to the Russian oil barons. Regret not giving the goons 100% though.

51% Arsenal because we hate them as I am a spurs fan. 49% Chelsea because as a human being, i hate them. Should have went 50, 49, then 1 for us because as @EJWTartanSpur said we are our own worst enemy at times.

Just because west ham fans are convinced we’re there rival doesnt make it so...

However, I do hope and pray they get relegated because the world needs the content that will be west ham/millwall at the OS. And the world also needs it televised with a special camera pointed to the stands that are conservatively 8 miles away from the pitch.
