If we do end up with some part-time or amateur outfit early on, I'd love to see a team something like this - all players who could rotate into the XI for the group stage too, just not all at once

Whiteman
KWP, Tanganga, Foyth, Cirkin
Skipp, Gedson
Clarke, White, Sessegnon
Parrott
It's single-leg knock-outs in the qualifiers, rather than the two leg ties it usually is so I'd be absolutely amazed if Mourinho doesn't field at least 6 or 7 regulars just to ensure we get in to the Group stage.

I don't care who wins the FA Cup, but I'd rather see us avoid the qualifiers. It means extra rest for the team, a more focused preseason, and no chance of a fcuk-up of the Spursy variety. It is a single game too, not the usual home-and-home.

If it's anyone half-decent I agree, but in the 2nd Qualifying Round we could literally draw a team of plumbers, electricians and ski instructors from Andorra. I don't think he'd take the first team along to that when we have a Premier League game 3 days later. I'm sure there's some rule against it but I bet he'd be tempted not to even go himself, stay at home with the actual first-team players and let Ledley step into the hotseat for a match.

The answer is Chelsea btw, that or a meteor hitting the stadium.

Not sure where else to ask this question, but how is it possible to get 9 teams in European football? We get 4 CL places and 3 Europa league places at the beginning of the season. But we can only have a max of 5 in the CL, so in what scenario would we end up with 5 CL teams and 4 EL teams?

So happy we got europa!!!! Thirsty Thursday nights are the best nights for a home game or europa trip!!!! Mourinho's football was actually worth something and he is a psychology master, learnt from him in general life. Go Mou!!!

It's great to be in the EL If we do this. Said it many times. Problem is we won't and we'll sabotage our league form by playing Kane, Son, GLC and others welllll before it gets interesting. The only one time we really should have taken it seriously, 3 seasons ago now when we got to the quarters after dropping out of the CL IIRC, we rested players because we had a domestic cup semi final. Ended up losing both. :spitoutdummy:

The Premier league states clearly that we will miss out, if Wolves win the Europa League and Arsenal win the FA Cup. Looks like there actually is a 7 club limit for each country. Can the ESPN analysis be more accurate than the official website? Hopefully yes. Here is the link:

We've had 8 teams in Europe before, that was the 17/18 season (I think)

7 spots via league position. The additional CL place from Europa is not counted as a league position.

Here is the section from the UEFA Euorpa League regulations that deals the number of teams that each country can have in the tournament (Section 3.02):

"Associations are represented on the following basis." (England has three teams.)
"....c. three representatives: the winner of the domestic cup and the two clubs which finish the top domestic championship immediately below the club(s) which qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

In special circumstances, the winner of another official domestic competition maybe entered for the UEFA Europa League in place of the lowest ranking top domestic championship representative referred to in Paragraph 3.02(c), provided such a competition has been approved by UEFA before the start of the season in question...."

So England gets three teams in the Europa (two from the cups and one from the league). However, now it gets interesting, because there is also this (Section 3.07):
"The UEFA Europa League titleholder is admitted to the UEFA Champions League group stage. If the UEFA Europa League title holder qualifies for the UEFA Europa League through one of its domestic competitions, the number of places to which its association is entitled in the UEFA Europa League is decreased by one. The created vacancy is filled accordingly with priority for the UEFA Europa League given to domestic cup winners (in accordance with the entry stage as per the access list)."

This could mean that if Wolves (who have qualified for next season's EL via league position) win the EL, then next season's EL entitlement for England would be reduced by one place. No harm done, because Wolves were already occupying the place that would be lost and the only effect would be that they would be in the CL instead of the EL.

BUT

If the Goons win the FA Cup then they will get the EL place that goes to the sixth placed team (us) and progress to the group stage and demote us to the qualifiers. We all know this. But if that happens and Wolves win the EL, it looks like we won't be in Europe next year because Wolves' win will mean that the last EL place (which will be ours if the Goons win the Cup) will be lost.

So even though we finished sixth, if Wolves win the EL and the Arse win the Cup, it looks like there won't be thursday night football next season.

Also, I can't seem to find 1 article that suggests we might not get EL? Everywhere is saying it's confirmed.

It's confirmed, I'll believe the club, the tv networks, and every newspaper before some rando on this site saying otherwise.
