Looks like Chelsea v Liverpool next week could be for 4th spot, although wouldn't surprise me if Chelsea lose at Swansea later who really need to win.

Looking at our remaining 4 games I'd be very disappointed if we didn't pick up at least 10 points, don't think that will be enough for 2nd though.

Clearly not a good result but that's still a crucial point for Liverpool. They just have to beat Brighton at home on final day (after the SF is done and dusted) to seal top 4 regardless of what happens with Chelsea.

Yep if Chelsea win their 2 games in hand and beat Liverpool, they’ll be level on points though worse GD. They’re 18 goals worse off but if they hammer Swansea by 4 or 5 and win their next game in hand by similar, then beat Liverpool by 2 then they’d only be 3 or 4 behind them on GD. Unlikely but possible.

Very unexpected result today. Good. Be lovely to finish above them and just hope they muck up in the CL.

In order for Chelsea to be a concern then they'd have to win every match, including against Liverpool who have played a game extra...........surely Liverpool should be more concerned than us?
If Liverpool have a little wobble against Stoke this weekend then it could get very interesting.

I want us to finish above Liverpool but I’ll be more than happy if Chelsea drop points later to make life easier for us. I think they will beat Swansea though because it wouldn’t be us if it was easy.

Do we get to say, “we’ve had a rubbish season, but if we win our games in hand we’ll be above Liverpool who according to every pundit and journalist are the greatest team in football history “

Great result today just need to capitalise on the games in hand and we can match last season's finish, which considering playing not in our own stadium is remarkable and quite an achievement.

We just need to beat Watford. If we do that then I think things will look a lot better and we can relax a little. Hopefully the 9 day break from a fixture has done us the world of good.

So that Liverpool result really doesn’t mean too much for us in terms of a top 4 finish (it obviously does if we want to finish above them).

But Chelsea won’t catch Liverpool if Liverpool beat Brighton on the final day of the season, so we still need to finish above Chelsea.

Would be fantastic if Chelsea drop points at Swansea later

Hypothetically if we come 3rd, Chelsea come 4th, Arsenal win the Europa League and then Liverpool get to the final, we'll have an interesting dilemma. If Liverpool lift the trophy they will take Chelsea's Champions League spot for next season even though they finished top four and give them a taste of their own medicine after 2012. However, this would mean having to deal with Liverpool winning the Champions League and how annoying all of their fans would be. Aside from that, that elevates them to another level as a football club which we really don't want.

It would hurt Liverpool more to miss out on CL than Chelsea probably, although I think Hazard and Courtois will probably ask to leave if they miss out on CL. Having said that, Liverpool ending the season in 5th place with no trophies after all the hype would be far too funny.

All very unlikely but...... Chelsea are 18 goals worse off than Liverpool. Their games in hand are against Swansea and Huddersfield. They could smash both of them by 5 goals as they have in the past. That would bring it down to being 8 goals worse off. If Liverpool do get knocked out by Roma by the time they play Chelsea, they could be completely off their game and Chelsea could put 3 past them (which would be 6 in their favour re GD) which would mean they’re only 2 goals behind Liverpool going into the last match against Newcastle, while Liverpool have to play a well organised Brighton. I can’t believe I want Chelsea to finish 4th.

That said, if Chelsea lose later, I’ll still be extremely happy as it means we’re almost there re CL football.

You are asking for a lot there and I just don’t see that happening. Bet on it tho and you will have a nice little pay day

It's obviously unlikely and a very specific scenario. But the only parts that would surprise people would be to see Arsenal turn things around in Madrid and Liverpool drop points at home to Brighton on the final day. Unlikely as they both are, they'd be far from the strangest things to have happened this season.
