As long as we don't fall behind with to an early goal, this in theory should not be the West Brom we tend to play against where they shut up shop and try to frustrate us by slowing down the game and wasting time. This should in theory suit us, we can't ignore their recent improvement in form and desire to scrap till the last so we will have to improve our own form and game from what we have seen in recent weeks.

What could also play into our hands is if Stoke win before we kick off and news starts to filter through the that Swansea have taken the lead in the last half an hour of our game because as much as they have been scrapping for their lives, it's bound to take the wind out of their sails to some extent.

I think if Stoke win then WBA are relegated (because Swansea still have to play both Southampton and Stoke so at least one of those 3 would then have to get another 2 points which would condemn WBA).

But that's a debate for another thread.....

I hope that we see more energy than of late.

Not sure that he is "the player" we are looking for but certainly would welcome a fit winks back into the squad.

I think in theory winks is exactly what we are looking for a deep laying ball playing CM in the Spanish style would give us a great alternative to Dier or wanyama. And in tough matches a good option to play alongside Dier.

Some posters(well one at least) was certain it was a nailed on formality.

Because some people who have been seemingly burnt by previous 'Spursy' moments constantly tell themselves that the world is caving in so predict a negative outcome for Spurs just to make themselves and everyone else to feel better if it does inevitably happen, it's really sad to be honest.

Well, only time will tell. I do like the way he always seems to be looking for the forward pass and then only going sideways if the doesn't see one. He does seem to be a "heads up" type of player.

There is nothing more annoying on this site than peolle discussing qualifying rules for the CL and not getting it. :D
To be fair it would probably help if UEFA didn't change the rules every two or three years and throw previous precedent out of the window!

Rather like in the Python film (Holy Grail?). I paraphrase:
1: So you guard the guards.
2: Right. So I stay here.
1: Yes.
2: And guard the guards.
1: Yes.
2: Right. (starts to leave with 1)
1: What are you doing?
2: I'm coming with you.
1: No! I said, you stay here!
2: Oh.
Etc. Etc.

I think we should go there, park the bus, time-waste, frustrate them and score on the break, thus relegating them.

Oh the sweet, sweet irony :sneaky:

agreed - if we take the lead I would like us to put on the most shameless display of time wasting in the history of time wasting.

Bookies have us 1/3 on to finish 3rd and Liverpool 4/1 . Considering they always overprice us that’s very short.
