If we can't pick up 4 points against Leicester and Newcastle we won't have done well.

I too remember what it used to be like. When Cisse headed in the winner for Sunderland after Berbatov left....when we got spanked 3-0 at home by middlesborough... it definitely wasn't better...you've just forgotten how shit it was.

I haven't forgotten. I just miss fans having realistic expectations and I've always hated self entitlement from those I already mentioned. So it winds me up even more when I hear it from our own. Hopes, desires and ambition are wonderful. As long as we remember that's what they are.

Oh don't get me wrong, I agree we have to keep pushing for the success we all want and not get complacent, but that includes the fans.

Moaning and groaning when we aren't 2-0 up by half time as we have seen in so many match day threads this season is a losers mentality. A winners mentality is to never know you are beaten. The players need it, the management need it, and we the fans need it.

False dawn? Christ on a bike, I know it's been a hard week but isnt that just a little hyperbolic?
Agree with everything you said apart from that last sentence. False dawn is an apt description of Tottenham tbh. Another time we've seen a side that looks like things have changed. If we don't get top 4, then clearly not

Not getting top 4 would be a disaster, and IMO the catalyst for the beginning of a steady decline.

The way we’ve played over the past month has been utterly shambolic, and I’m not even sure where the blame lies.

I’d go as far to say that if we finish 5th, we need to seriously consider whether Poch has taken us as far as he is capable.

It's so typical of us to do this to ourselves we were pretty much coasting into Champions League and now
we've put pressure on ourselves! Still backing us to pip the bin dippers and nick 3rd tho...COYS

Two cup finals in the next week. This is the time, chips down and pressure on, that we need to show we have the balls to do what is required.

We need CL mate, you can trust me on that.

Well if the club have planned everything based on getting CL, it was foolish to do so. Although I'm guessing there was a fair bit of contingency planning in the event we didn't. But I can imagine tat a failure to enter the competition will significantly impact potential signings.

I suspect it’s in terms of getting players to sign new contracts or getting our targets into the club.

I wish there was a comedy gold rating. Given the resources at his disposal and ground displacement, really? Come.on. way OTT.

Any chance of Benitez, in his pre-match press conference, saying he would like Liverpool and Chelsea getting the 3rd and 4th spot and will be trying hard to nullify Spurs. Wouldn’t be the first time a rival manager has expressed a preference. ?

Life was better as a spurs fan before all the champions league bollocks and expectations. Its turned the place toxic and supporters are starting to sound more and more.like entitled gooners, Scousers and mancs. Folks need to chill. Of course it'll be disappointing to finish outside the top 4. But with the squad and this season's injury challenges, we've still done well.
Completely agree. Said this many times before.

It is such a huge revenue driver. I don't think some people fully appreciate how big an impact CL is on most clubs, Spurs particularly.

This year, our CL revenue was over £50M - or about 20% of our total revenue from 2016/17.

Really there is two types of 5th here, there's finishing 5th over the course of the season with being at wembley and our resources in itself, pretty good, then there's finishing 5th when you had the lead and fixtures we had which is nothing other than pathetic. The 'over-reaction' is for the latter so let's not mix up the two.

You can take this many ways:

1) players will be asking to leave to pursue their title winning dreams

2) our squad Improvement won’t be as robust as the $150 million or so that has been suggested. Which puts Levy & Poch relationship over the burner.

3) raises for some or none

Edit: I am sure there are more

For the first time in a very long time I thought the post match interview by Poch was spot on. Our players play like having the highest percentage of possession wins you the game. He admitted our problem is creativity and being clinical. They have no urgency with regard to putting the ball in the net as if passing the ball from side to side will eventually create the chance. We do not take care with our final ball and we do not commit players to the danger areas nearly enough.

Probably all three.

Ehrm ... that's on Pochettino. That's football to him. That's not the players, it's down to him. He only thinks in "possession" and "not possession".
