Race for the Top 4 - 2017/18

Football, like life, isn't fair, even more so if you made the life choice to support Tottenham Hotspur.

If they let us down, they'll move elsewhere for a payrise, and we'll be even more screwed going forward.
Ok.

Little point in bothering debating the toss then tbh.

We're fucked.

Always next year.

My point was we can't expect players to take the responsibility it's just not how modern football works. We as fans always suffer the worst. Not sure why you got so offended.

I'm not even one of the doom and gloom merchants, although I'd be lying if I said the Chelsea win hasn't worried me a bit considering our history...

Offended?

Why would I be offended at the finality of the context in which you draw your conclusions.

If you put a lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig.

Like I said, there is always next year and if you thought I was offended I'm not.

My glass isn’t half full or half empty,I just see the opportunity for a drink. With Lolpool losing puts us just one point behind them with a game in hand. We can still finish 3rd ??

At start of the season I thought if we finsh in top 4 playing our home games at Wembley would be a great season. We have two very winnable games to finish 3rd. Surely the lads and Poch can summon the effort to get this done.

Biggest issue for me is tempo / urgency (or lack of). In all our defeats and in particular this run of poor form we have been so slow to move the ball, we just let teams get set defensively and then can’t pick our way through. It’s not happening.

It’s not about possession, it’s about what you do with it. Our best performances this season have come with the least possession, Madrid and Liverpool at home.

Just got be aggressive, high tempo and more direct in these last two games otherwise we are risking blowing it and my Arsenal fan boss will make my life unbearable!

Newcastle have lost their last three and Leicester four of their last five. Both are about as easy fixtures as we could have hoped for to close out the season. Yes, there's a sense of running on empty since the semi-final but we get two bites at the cherry, Liverpool only have one and I'd rather be in our shoes than theirs. Just about.

All good.

:)

I hope you are right and the players step up in the next two games, it is certainly to their benefit, I'd imagine they have bonuses for it before even thinking about contract negotiations. My worry is if they'll really fight for it if something goes against us in either game. I hope so as I'd thought we'd improved mentally.

I stand by my point that modern players will never truly suffer like fans however, especially the talented ones.

I think we'll get the 4-6 points we need, but I'm always gonna have that nagging doubt we'll end up with shit on our faces again.

Not getting top 4 would be a disaster, and IMO the catalyst for the beginning of a steady decline.

The way we’ve played over the past month has been utterly shambolic, and I’m not even sure where the blame lies.

I’d go as far to say that if we finish 5th, we need to seriously consider whether Poch has taken us as far as he is capable.
wow --- those of you agreeing with this....we have a seriously toxic fan base

I'm almost at the point of not caring. Tonight has proved lots of things to me about all facets of the game.

If we do achieve top four there is always some narritive that can be twisted to suit and if we don't then I am sure everyone will demand answers to everything all at once, which i'm sure everyone feels entitled to have just not all at once.

I think I shall view it all as I suggested, pig with lipstick etc. Then it is easier giving less of a fuck if it goes trotters up I suppose.

The way I look at it is:

It's in our hands that we can finish third, and it's in our heads that we could also finish fifth.

I hope the players aren't going in to the final two games with the same mentality as our fans, if so we won't be getting top 4. We need to go out and prove we're not soft Spurs anymore. Put Newcastle to the sword, and try and make life as comfortable as possible for the Leicester game.

really? You’d rather be in shit form dropping places like a stone & wondering, again, wtf has actually happened than charging up the table & in the CL final?

To think if we dont win Wednesday there is a very good chance it wont be in our hands

Well if we draw it will still be in our hands. We would just need nothing less than a win on the final day. Unless Chelsea win both their remaining games 5-0 or so and we only win by 1 goal.

Hopefully the win can come on Wednesday though for a little less nervy final game in only needing a draw.

On the plus side Leicester have a mid week game as well and a host of injuries. I’m definitely buying into players want puel out, they’ve done it before. Just hope he hangs in till Sunday. Also for me a player like say vardy or Maguire who 100% knows he is going to World Cup will not be trying an ounce imo for fear of injury. If I know I’m definitely going to World Cup and club having nothing on line last game, I wouldn’t even raise a sweat especially away from home.
