Ramos prepared to cast net wide
Tottenham's England hopefuls grabbed the goals against Wigan on Sunday - but Juande Ramos insists there will be no homegrown favouritism.
Spurs have taken great pride in their policy of recruiting British talent such as Jermaine Jenas, Aaron Lennon and Darren Bent - all of whom were on the scoresheet in a 4-0 win at White Hart Lane.
Ramos was appointed a fortnight ago and the Spaniard has been linked with a host of players from La Liga, but he will not be looking for players from any particular countries.
"In today's football you don't need to look at passports or identity cards," he said.
"What we are going to be looking for is quality players. I'm trying to get players who are going to be playing well for my team regardless of their nationality."
Ramos is unbeaten in his four games in charge and the straightforward win over managerless Wigan moved them up to 14th in the Premier League.
Robbie Keane made the opener by embarrassing Andreas Granqvist on the byline and crossing for Jenas to tap home.
Jenas added the second when he made a run from deep and rounded goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, then Lennon added a third before the break with a skidding volley.
Bent came off the bench to add the fourth, his fourth of the season.
Jenas said on Sky Sports News: "We know we are a top side and belong up there but the league table is telling us differently so it's up to us now to keep churning out performances like that and climb the table."
Dimitar Berbatov set up two goals and his flicks and tricks were coming off, just days after making a statement in response to reports he is unsettled.
It has been suggested that the Bulgarian would want Champions League football next season. Ramos wants him at White Hart Lane.
"I hope until the end of the season he will make a decision and hopefully he will stay," Ramos said.
Wigan moved down a place to 19th and will need their new manager to get to work quickly.
Paul Jewell has been linked with a return, with caretaker boss Frank Barlow emphasising the need for a swift appointment - as long as the right man is found.
"I think the chairman is aware of that," he said.
"Everyone in football knows you can't control the accelerator pedal in situations like that. I'm sure the chairman is doing everything he can."
sounds promising...
