The important thing that you seem to be forgetting is that the team will play as conte wants not le Grove stat whatever.
He doesn't play with a creative in the middle of the park he plays with cms that destroy and control the middle.
Soooo nooo we don't need the cm you want us to buy we need the cms conte wants and (here's the special bit) we now have them ?
At Chelsea he regularly used Fabregas as a midfielder, and he was one of their best players that year they won the title.

I find this interesting, you’ve just hammered Raphinha with Leeds stats, then said Lucas is “criminally underrated”. He’s scored 9 in his last 99 Premier League appearances, with the better players around him yet make no allowance for Leeds’ relegation plight, the Bamford injury etc.

So, to improve the front 3, who do you sign?
"Hammered" is hyperbole on your end. I'm simply saying Kulusevski is the better player.

I also didn't say Lucas was some kind of amazing player. I just said he was underrated; in other words, better than what most Spurs fans make out. As a rotation/backup, I think he's a great option to have, especially knowing he's content with not starting every game.

As for improving the front three, who do we sign you ask? As in to improve on Kane/Son/Kulusevski? I'm not convinced there's a single player we could realistically obtain that's a clear improvement on those guys. This is why I strongly prefer targeting a new midfielder.
If anyone should be signed for the front three, it's a direct backup to Kane specifically, who we have no replacement for. I also don't think we need to splash a huge amount of cash, just a good, premier-league proven striker would do fine.

I'm going to throw up a hot take: Atletico Madrid supposedly want Lo Celso and Royal, and people have been speculating about swap deals. Joao Felix has been mentioned, but that's a pipe dream. For me, there's this old, but premier league-proven striker there, who may feel he has unfinished business in England. We were linked to him 12 years ago, and I think he even publicly declared his interest in joining us then, only for Redknapp to say no, thinking he wouldn't adapt. I reckon he'd be a really nice backup/rotation option for Kane, and wouldn't cost the farm.

It's not necessarily about improving the front three though is it. It's about improving the depth in the squad in those areas so when we rotate there is no real drop in quality.

Well, you and about 100 others in this thread might be happy to spend £60m+ on winger depth, but in my opinion, that money would be much better spent on another midfielder, where we need both depth and better first team talent. Just my opinion.

We are selling Berg and although I like Lucas he just isn't nearly as good as Son, Kane or Kulu. We are light in that area. We are much stronger in midfield imo in terms of squad depth and quality.

11 goals in La Liga last season isn't bad. 21 the season before that where Atletico won the title is pretty damn good.
37 year old grandpa Ronaldo was still good enough to kick 18 goals in the Premier League, and certainly toweled our defence up. Age is just a number.

Here's an even hotter take: Diego Costa has been without a club since January this year. In other words... he's free!
I mean hey, we paid £15m for Llorente...

He played 1300 minutes and started only 13 games for them in the league that season. A decent percentage of them were in an attacking midfield role too.

I just find it interesting that we would get one or the other since they both play different positions and we need to fill those positions. We're not skint either.
Maybe the brief is to say we're only looking for one so if one falls through it doesn't seem so bad.

He didn't I'm afraid. In fact, a lot was made out of the fact that Fabregas was getting dropped and wasn't doing it under Conte.

You may be getting confused with his spell under Mourinho, because he was superb that season and had loads of assists to his name but when Conte came he didn't fancy him.

In a Conte team, first and foremost, midfielders need to work hard, run a lot and be combative. Only when they do those things can they add creativity.

5 goals, 12 assists
16 games as a defensive midfielder, 10 as an attacking midfielder. Most assists came as a defensive midfielder.

Starter or not, 12 assists is an outstanding return.

Given that for most of the season, especially after the World Cup, there will be 2 games a week, we will need quality squad depth and that is what the big teams have. Son, Kane and Kulusevski won't be playing every single game, so we need to make sure that the players who come in are good enough to make an impact.

And while you make think we need more depth and talent in midfield, it would seem, at least according to ITK and the positions we are looking at, that Conte and Co don't agree. We have 4 centre mids for 2 positions and I don't see us adding to them or replacing them as Conte likes them all.
