Rate The Ref

Would be cool to keep a track of all the domestic referees and how well they refereed for us, so thought I'd set up a thread tracking their performance.

So rate Andre Marriner on his performance in the City games and I'll put the poll score into an average

6 for me, did well, game was well controlled, but wasn't a terrible difficult game to referee.

I've yet to see the penalty incident again, but they certainly didnt get the ball so its either a penalty or yellow for diving.

He also missed a couple of blatant corners in that first half, one he and his lineman may not have seen Hart get a touch of thought it hit the post, but one where Kolo Toure tried and failed to shepherd the ball out was atrocious.

I gave him 4/10. Wouldnt say he is neccessarily bad but you get the feeling that he will bottle the big decisions in the big games, would give Utd a penalty so Fergie doesnt shout at him, that sort of thing.

I don't think he gave us a free kick, I think every free kick we won was awarded by a linesman.

first half he wasn't great but better in the second. think he was quite unbiased to both sides.

Thought he was extremely picky and gave some stupid free kicks when play should've flowed. In addition there is the debatable penalty situation.

I thought he had a decent game. Made a couple of errors but nothing too controversial. I haven't seen a replay of the penalty incident, but they didn't mention it on MOTD so I guess it can't have been that blatent?

I actually thought he had a pretty good game, but it was a definite penalty. Apart from that I didn't notice the geezer much so must have been pretty good.

mixed bag, goes for both sides.

Pros:
-got most decisions right
-was not "trigger happy" with his cards, keen not to become the story
-Generally dealt well with player pressure
-Made sure free kicks and throw-ins where taken on where the incident happened
-unbiased

cons:
-Kompany was lucky to stay on. could of had a pen, but it wasn't exactly stone wall. Couldn't be sure on it. overall he bottled out of any major incidences
-missed quite a clear cut corner.
-one of the lines men was bad, seemed unable to award quite clear cut fouls. To the extent that the ref often overruled him.
-failed to play advantage regularly, sometimes in black and white advantages
-Very rarely made sure walls were 10 yards out. Simply just guessing on where seemed right

Not a bad performance by any means, but not great 6/10

I thought the ref had a good game apart from 2 BIG mistakes - the penalty incident, and letting Kompany get away with a 2nd yellow.
Hence only a 6.

I haven't seen the penalty incident yet, but he did the thing which really pissed me off with referees, the advantage ruling. One time we had a really nice attack going and he awarded us a foul, every week this happens, and it shows a real misunderstanding of what is happening.

My 'feed' must have packed in when this happened, and (amazingly surprisingly) MOTD didn't show it (doubt it was for anything trivial like showing Citeh in a bad light:roll, so I am gonna have to take The Whinger on that - I didn't see it:grin:

On that basis I have given him an 8, as I thought he handled everything well. Maybe coulda given Kompany a second yellow, but I think most of us would agree that would have been a tad harsh (and if given against us we would be seething). If it genuinely was a blatant pen, and he bottled it I would reduce my mark to a 6.
Does anyone have a vid of the penalty incident?

The penalty and the bottled second yellow on Kompany make it hard to give him anything above a 2.
