I so disagree with that opinion. We made them poor! Give someone like Mahrez time and space he will kill you. Our Reguilon did not allow it. And our team on a whole stifled them where they could not break our defensive play. So to summarise I think Man City were good but we were better!

Reguilon got stuck into him from the start and you could see Mahrez's confidence drain, he should have been pulled after 10 minutes

Aurier for me . Agree with all the positives in this thread, great day...Haha...BUT , I'd just nitpick at the general consensus that Sonny and Gio's goals were masterfully taken .

Both shots were straight at the goalkeeper , they went thru his legs as he came out , I'm not convinced these shots were intentionally placed between his legs which were moving quickly . A slight element of good fortune involved imo rather than striker perfection . Small point tho on a great afternoon .

A lot of Son's finishes go through keepers legs. I think there's more skill than luck involved there.

Mpickard would be saying that was turgid dog shit football, but curiously he hasn't posted!

Maybe because we're top of the league!!

Some posters are conspicuous by their absences when we win or play well, the sad truth I reckon is that some like to come on here and moan - it's like an abusive relationship, only happy when they're abusing their partners.

Probably because it wasn't turgid dogshit Football. It was resilient, concentrated, focussed Football with a clear game plan set up to exploit both the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition.

In short, it was a superb display of a strategy executed to, almost, perfection.

Some people are only entertained by their team if they area pinging around Hollywood passes, running rings around the opposition and scoring hatfulls of goals as a result. Others love to see controlled defensive solidity with explosive counter attacking.

Still others like a bit of both. I'm in this category, and I've been saying for a long, long time now that we have a manager who provides you with everything on the menu.

It was like watching a good boxer win on points over a big hitter who couldn't lay a glove on him. Not such a spectacle as a TKO but a very well crafted win none the less.

Smidge unkind Mr P. Mpickard is an exceptional poster with a keen eye for areas that could be improved imo .

I see people here occasionally mentioning how unkind SC has become....this sort of casual unpleasantness , not required imo .

Tough choice to make as there where many players out there playing well. My vote goes to Hojbjerg as he pocketed KDB and ruled the mid for us.

Gone for Team effort. Kane was amazing but so was everyone. Special mention to Aurier for a real mature performance. Also Bergwijn as he's been playing bit parts but put in a great performance. Everyone was great. Rodon, what a game to debut on. Slipped straight in and never put a foot wrong. Needs a haircut though lol. Reguilon, what a player we have there. Same with Hojbjerg, so important for us. Sissoko had a good game as well. Dier and Toby were fkin quality. Gutted about Tobys injury, the only negative on an otherwise excellent day.
Very excited about this season. Could it be we finally lift a trophy?

Not saying he isn't a great poster. I enjoy his posts, he's clearly knowledgeable and insightful, even though we disagree on things...the point of a forum.

I was referring to his previous post regarding the West Brom performances, where he was saying we got lucky playing crap football.

The point I was making that he would prefer the game played a certain way over progress or success (at the expense of a certain style)

That's his prerogative of course but I'll never understand how any Spurs fan couldn't get excited over seeing us top of the league just because we arnt playing a certain way to achieve that.

My little comment was off the back of a previous discussion with him last week, bit of an exaggeration to call it unkind lol, but alright.

Serious question for the 9 people who voted Sissoko, MoTM.

Why?

Here are the player stats for the game
... in which pretty much every other outfield player contributed more
and here is a defensive highlight reel

... in which his only contributions are one interception and one push the player off the ball.

An earlier comment describes him as "a wall" which is quite literally true. He plants himself inside Aurier and in front of Toby and stands there for 90 minutes. OK, he's had worse games than against Citeh, but there is not one single metric in which he contributed more than say Kane, PEH, TN, Toby, Eric.

So, why do 9 people consider him MoTM?

Asking for a friend in the #10 shirt.

I guess some stats are difficult to be accounted for like covering and positioning

Sissoko's positional nous off the ball has always been one of his best skills. Even when he was grievously out of form and lacking in confidence, following his arrival at Tottenham, his positioning was still reliably sound. The problem is that positioning not only doesn't make highlight reels, it doesn't get noticed at all, except when there's a mistake.

But would the crowd have accepted a performance like that?
Would it not have got impatient towards the end of the first half, perhaps forcing a player into a forward pass that could have given the ball away?
I feel the crowd being absent-Jose can get on with the way he wants to play and get results without protest. Yes the Tottenham support is not forgiving when football is sidelined for effort and maybe this hinders us a little moving forward. Maybe now seeing results we may forgive JM a little and be patient accepting this alternative style once back in the stadium. The season is a long haul and we need to accept games as this if we want to win trophies on a regular basis not once in a generation.

It's certainly one of those things that I personally only get a sense of when I'm watching a game at the stadium. On television, situations have more of a habit of appearing out of nowhere.

After Marhez scored that winner against us when Trippier lost the ball, I am not only loving the fact that we won, but that Reggy made Marhez look so sh*t.
