I think before we were looking to have our youth sides mirroring AVB's philosophy. Probably see some changes in the way our youth teams play now.
The thing the philosophy has been at the club before AVB and back to Moniz, we have played 442 under harry but that was mainly to accommodate Pav otherwise it was 4231

Not sure that I read it anywhere but for a while there our midfield ages were 24, 21, 21 & 19 so a little credit due them I think.

Kompany is both. Judas was too.

I agree one of each is best - Terry and Carvalho, Vidic and Rio even Mertesacker and Koscielny.

This is why I think Vlad is Jan's long term replacement rather than partner and why I definitely would have kept Caulker. Got the ability to be the best 'stopper' since Terry.
Spot on. I agree with all of that completely.

I meant AVB's philoshophy in terms of the formations and tactics he used. Moniz tought the 'Coerver Method' which was to help players technique, nothing to do with formations or tactics. What I meant to say in my OP was you might now see our youth teams playing in different formations now that AVB has gone.

Lamela 6.5 Still trying to hard and not letting things come to him. On the positive note, he (centrally) is very good at progressive first time passes with either foot and started a few attacks this way (including our first goal) or kept moves flowing. on the negative, because he is trying a bit hard his touch when receiving the ball was a bit heavy.
I think this is the best appraisal of his play at the moment, the way he sees the game is all there, he chooses the right passes and shows intelligence.

He has what I call an "anxious touch" currently though. His lack of confidence means he's overthinking what he's going to do when recieiving the ball rather than relying on his natural instincts. Seen it plenty of times from park football to the PL. The most recent example was Ramsey when he as going through a bad spell last season, and the scum fans were getting on his back.

Hopefully Sherwood will give him a run in the side because only a couple of goals will getting him playing with freedom again.

Lloris was poor. His mistake for 2nd goal and punches when catching is safer.

Chiriches was poor as well. Too many through balls from soton got past him.

Soldado missed so many chances yet gets good marks. Now imagine defoe playing exactly like that. He wont have got good marks. Not condemning soldado at all here, but more to the defoe haters.

Lamela was disappointing. Chadli came on and looked far more dangerous than him

Chadli was good and should be a regular. Comfy on left or right.

Siggy, eriksen and dembele were average. Not bad but not really in the game.

Walker was majestic again. Not many people can get past him.

Rose started poorly but got better. Will come good after a few games.

Dawson was captain material today.

Bentaleb was good for a debutant. Very composed on the ball and does not lack confidence. Hope to see more of him.

Adebayor was THE man. Without him we would have looked average again. What a difference he makes. Now keep this enthusiasm son and we just might sneak back into the top 4

Full marks to sherwood for the team selection and daring substitutions.

The man has no confidence in front of goal. that was clear to see, but his general play was outstanding. He will come good of that i'm sure.

Credit to Sherwood for the balls to gamble. It paid off, and in the end it was a deserved 3 points. We did, though, have some very lucky moments and I don't think 4-1-3-2 with inverted wingers is the future ;)

As others have said: Ade great, Bentaleb, Chadli, full backs good, the rest decent and Siggy/Lamela poor.

This team should win our next two, but it'll be like 90s Spurs vs Manure..

Thats exactly how it looked to me too,not sure why people think we played 4-4-2.

Walker not getting enough love here!
Agree. Thought he was immense today and worthy of an 8 for me. Having Rose back was also vital - in the coming games we will see just how much we missed having an overlapping lb for the last four months. Threats from both sides of the pitch out wide will give teams so much more to worry about.

Also think that Rose means we no longer have to rely on playing the pacey lads on the left. Would rather see Chadli or Eriksen playing on the left of a four, with Sandro and one of Eriksen or Holtby in the middle and Lamela on the right.

I am 100% convinced Defoe is just counting down the hours until he arrives at Heathrow to depart for Toronto at this point. Like whats the point of playing him anymore? He didnt even try in his cameo today. If you want to play, you give it your all when ever you get on the field. He looked like a man that doesnt even want to be out there at this point. Would've been better to just bring on Holtby or Fredricks for Soldado and go 5 in the midfield. At least they would have tried over the 10 minute cameo.

Adebayor was fantastic today. Looked like he did at the end of the season last year when the only ones scoring were him and Bale. Didnt miss a beat. AVB met his own demise by refusing to play Ade.

Extremely impressed by Bentaleb. Great job out there for his debut. Will be a good player.

Lloris still does not look 100%. He has/had a concussion that he's still clearly affected by. Im thinking it might serve him well to sit him out for a game or 2 unitl he is better. I have no fucking clue why AVB insisted on him staying in and continued to play him. Not good at all. Concussions are not something to take lightly. Brad can do the job until Lloris is okay. FFS, the man doesnt even look 80% out there.

Sherwood. I just dont know anymore. Great win, but this mans subs were shocking. Siggy should have came off for Chadli. Not Lamela. Defoe had no business coming on and he's lucky Bentaleb worked out. The safe play would have been Capuoe. Oh and I still do not like the 442 flat. We need a manager, and soon.

All the positives from today and your entire first paragraph is spent moaning about a player who played 5 mins lol.

Honestly it's so funny!

Ade MOTM by a country mile. Mixed bag from soldado- immense assist for the first goal but a couple of very guilt-edged misses which could've cost us dear. 3 things I would say:

1) AVB's refusal/inability to harbour any kind of working relationship with Ade has been to the severe detriment of the team this year. He is our best striker. I think if he'd played (even coming on as a sub) in the Newcastle, West Ham, and even Everton and Man utd games, we would be in a better position in the table right now.

2) To a lesser extent, the same can said for BAE- I like Rose, but he's been injured for about 2 months and not having sufficient options there has hurt us dearly.

2) On another note, Kyle Walker has, IMO, been our most consistent player this season. He's had his critics, but I believe he deserves massive credit

Sherwood deserves credit for finally showing us a glimpse of Soldado's true ability.

Maybe there is a player there. Incredible cross.
