Unfortunately due to a prior comitment with the missus, I was unable to catch the game. Could anybody who saw the game give a brief analysis of how the guys who played today did? It would be much appreciated:)

Going by the highlights Cudicini kept us in the game in the early stages and throughout the game made excellent saves.

Huddlestone's goal was from a school boy error back pass.

O'hara's goal came from a corner. A right foot into the top corner as well!

Crouch's headed goal came directly from a corner.

Bentley's goal came from some great wing play by Gio. Nice finish from inside the area with his left foot.

Doncaster then scored a penalty when Boateng slipped and handled the ball which was obviously by accident.

Then Boateng played a delightful defence splitting pass from inside our half, for Pav to run onto and score.

Doncaster had their chances - hit the post and cross bar iirc, and the scoreline is deceiving.

Cudicini did well, made a few good saves to keep us in it early on.

I thought Hudd controlled the game with his passing but 5-1 flattered us, Doncaster had 2 great early chances and hit the woodwork twice later on in the game.

For all O'Hara's tenacity him and the Hudd in the centre was far too immobile and against a prem team that 'soft centre' would have been exposed, I thought that against a lower end Championship team (meant with no disrespect to Doncaster) we would have controlled the centre of the park more but it just emphasised the need for a player like Palacios to play next to Hudd.

As well as Hudd thought Hutton did well playing out of position at LB and then looked okay playing CB for last 10 mins.

Gio looked a lot livelier when he switched to the right with 20 mins or so to go.

Summarising it was a Championship team making errors in defence and being punished by a Premiership side. The game itself in terms of chances was fairly even.

Did anybody watch the full game (or significant highlights ?).

I watched MOTD and realistically beyond the goals and knowing that our defence allowing a number of chances (as a unit) I don't think you could possibly rate anybody

It was a strange day, Thudd who suppose to be the slowest player in the PL beat the defender to the ball and scored, O'Hara who is suppose to be "only" left footed scores with his right foot, Bentley scored with his left, by the sounds of it Hutton did ok on the left, after watching highlights KPB pen was wrong the guy fell over and the ball hit his arm but the queerest thing is overall we did not play well and Doncaster seemed the better team on the day and looked well up for it

Average

Poor

Crouch

I would disagree slightly:

Good

Gio
Huddlestone
Bentley
O'Hara
Cudicini

Crouch (I actually felt he worked hard, held the ball up, brought others into play and looked dangerous throughout)

Average

Hutton (Only because he's not a left back, no bad word against him, he's just very one footed and didn't look comfortable)

Corluka (Got caught a few times, mainly due to Bassong, but mopped up well)

Naughton (Looked a little nervous, but got up and down well, as I said in another thread he left his post a bit too much and got caught, with Bentley bailing him out)

Poor

Pav (Didn't think he did enough, wasted a few good chances)
Bassong (Got caught miles away from Corluka a lot in the first half)

I have heard several views of people at the match who are neither pro nor anti Crouch saying he was quite poor...

Only us Spurs fans would say that about a guy who was making his first start for us after no pre-season and a handful of sub appearances, away at Doncaster in the league cup, with a second string side out.

AND.....he scored. The team won 5-1, but he was poor.

Brilliant.

Did you see the game?

I would have to agree with another poster - it was a strange game - although we won, the scoreline flattered, and but for some great saves from Cudicini, we could have been 2 0 down inside the first 9 mins!

They were going through our "defensive" unit like butter - I thought Bassong and Corluka looked a very weak partnership, and Hutton looked very right footed and unsure of exactly what to do out on the left!

Thank good we scored when we did as we were under immense pressure, I felt it was only a matter of time before they scored - and the goal, although Hudd reacted well to a bad pass, it was a schoolboy defensive error that gave it to him, and TBH, the shot was straight at the keeper, but just managed to slide in-between his legs - BUT, it really knocked the stuffing out of Donny, and heads sunk, which allowed us a bit of space, and hence the 2nd goal - and for me I thought that finished the game..............

But No, Donny kept pushing, and but for good saves, the woodwork on 2 occasions, and a bit of luck, they really should have been back in it.

Time and time again the breached our MF and Defence, and for me, if it wasn't for some clinical finishing at the other end ( a good slice of luck) this result could have looked very different for me!

MY ratings out of 10 (as you can see, not great for a side that won 5-1)

Gio ----------8
Hutton--------6
Huddlestone---6
Bentley--------8
O'Hara---------7
Cudicini--------9
Corluka---------5

I would agree with that assessment although I would say Pav was much better in the second half. He got into some good positions and he did hold the ball up in a few tricky areas bringing other players into play. Loved his little wave when he realised the fans were singing to him

Yeah we had to sing really, he'd fluffed a few chances and his head dropped a little.

B-listers!

Talking of B-listers, I know that people like to give Pleat stick, has anybody heard Dave Bassett commentating? My god, his pronunciation of Assou Ekotto makes "Shibomba" seem accurate!

You are doing your ratings on MOTD 10 minute highlights!!!

I am not saying Crouch was good, I just don't see how a striker who scores a goal (which is technically, ONE of the reasons why he is on the pitch unless you are Emile Heskey) can be marked as a 5.

Bassong was taken off when the score was 4-0........yet he deserves a 5?

I'm not saying they deserve 8's or 9's........but 5 is a terrible mark for anyone in a team that won 5-1!!!!!

And you weren't even there!! Or were you???

very strange game i agree. i was there. doncaster almost dominated the first half. they passed it around very slick in our half. fashioned good chances and cudicini was brilliant.

crounch did F all in the first half. but got a lot better in the 2nd. he headed just over from a good bentley free kick.
