Considering we had a makeshift defense who played together for the first time against a villa team who had won their previous two encounters (and didn't have a CL game), they did really well. Bassong not clearing the ball was a mistake before heskey outmuscled him, but otherwise they held out and Gomes didn't have a save to make.

Gomes - did ok, couldn't have done anymore for the goal 7

Hutton - determined, should have scored 7

Hudd - played like he was out of position but > Corluka as CB 6

Bassong - what he lacks in ability he makes up for in effort 6

BAE - useless again, putting too much pressure on CB's 4

Jenas - busy and made some good passes, but weak 6

Modric - absolutely no product today, very poor 4

VDV - oozes class 9

Bale - not at his best, but better than most 8

Pav - should've done better with his finishing 6

Crouch - goofy but ultimately effective, also should've scored 7

Lennon - look more like the lennon of old 7

Palacios - didn't make any hospital passes 6

Sandro - n/a not on long enough to assess

Harry - made the right substitutions 8

Gomes - 6 Still a pussy. Great keeper but man up for fuck sake.

Hutton -6 Like him going forward but not towards our own goal.
BAE - 7 Assured as ever, love him.
HUdd - 6 Nope, back in CM thanks.
Bassong - 5 Will die of embarrassment tonight after being beaten by Heskey, and quite rightly.

VdV - 9 A reality check. This is what a world class player is.
Jenas - 6.5 Ok.
Modric - 6 Not the best game for him.
Bale - 6.5 Not his best game, marked out of it in the first half, much better second after the tactical change.

Pav - 3 Seriously though who gives a fuck, he's "SUPER, SUPER Pav...."
Crouch - 7 Had about as good a game as Pav in midweek but will get nowhere near the recognition. 4 assists in 2 games including the penalty.

Lennon - 6 Ok
Sandro - N/A

Harry - 8 Well done on changing the system.

Gomes - 6

Hutton - 7.5
Hudd - 7
Bassong - 5.5
BAE - 6.5

Modric - 6.5
Jenas - 6
VDV - 8.5
Bale - 7

Pav - 6.5
Crouch - 6.5

Lennon - 6 (get's a extra point for his cross to Crouch.)

Can't understand why we took Pav off, he had a good game and for long times we didn't play as good in the second as the first half.
VDV is on another planet.....it was a looooong time since we saw this kind of quality player playing for Spurs

Decent all round performance today though obviously took us a while to get going. No-one really had a bad game but there are the obvious candidates for an outstanding contribution.

Gomes 6 - Did his job fine today, kicking still not right though and as a result his distribution was questionable at times.

BAE 6.5 - Another solid game, defended and got forward well.
Bassong 6 - Could have done better for the Villa goal but otherwise had a decent game.
Hudd 6.5 - Did fine considering it's not his natural position
Hutton 6 - Nothing spectacular but nothing too bad either.

Bale 7 - Another good performance
Modric 7 - Worked hard all game
Jenas 7 - Still the target of idiotic comments from retarded fans when he doesn't deserve it. Did well today.
VDV 8 - Took him a while to get into the game but he was quality in the second half. Definitely better suited to playing behind the striker as long as we have an affective Lennon.

Crouch 5 - Not his best day in the office.
Pav 6 - I thought he was unlucky to be taken off as he looked better than Crouch today.

Lennon 6 - Signs of the Lennon we all know and love seemed to return as he took on a few more players than he has done recently.
Palacios 5 - Wasn't on for long but didn't do much wrong.
Sandro N/A - Wasn't on for long enough to rate.

My point is we were a lucky to win today. The first 20 minutes of the second half we were all over the place due to the fact that our team was too attacking. I think the introduction of Lennon and the freeing of VDV from defensive duties was very risky. It paid off because of our individual quality, mostly VDV's, but I don't think it was tactically a very good move.

Bollocks.

Absolute bollocks.

If Mourinho had made that change at half time he would be hailed a tactical genius.

Good performance from most, Crouch and Pav struggled for most of the first half, with Pav looking the brighter and unlucky to get subbed - turned out to be the correct choice. Hudd and Bassong didn't look great, but were OK, bad mistake from seb for their goal. One of the worst performances I've seen from Luka, surprised he is getting rated the same as Jenas by most, thought JJ was great today - although a few loose passes.

Gomes 6.5
Hutton 7
Huddlestone 6
Bassong 5.5
BAE 7
VDV 9
Jenas 8
Modric 5
Bale 7.5
Crouch 7
Pav 6.5

Lennon 6.5
Palacios 6
Sandro n/a

Did you even see when they threw themselves at Gomes.....a while later they were allowed to kick him in the head.....yes there was even blood

Pav? I'm quite sure you decided your rating before the game. Biased to a level i haven't seen before

So perhaps you shouldn't say that Gomes is a pussy if you couldn't actually see what happened. He was kicked in the head and started to bleed......not a pretty sight and fuckin' pathetic that Clattenburg let Villa play this ugly against our keeper.

Biased wouldn't even start to describe your rating for Pav. He had a good game. Linked up good with Crouch and the midfield. Was at the right place a couple of times.....only criticism could be that he should have done better when heading the ball quite early in the game. But in that case players like Crouch and VDV should be critisized too for missing "sitters"

I saw it as it was directly in front of me, there was no blood, if there was, the ref has to stop the game. But there wasn't.

I am biased towards Pav you are right. Because he is shit.

Just like you are biased against Redknapp, Defoe, Crouch etc...

:bang:FFS we won today, we are supporters, lets stop this abuse of our own players.

Pav was OK today, didn't deserve to get your rating, and should be handed a bit of respect for being a big part of getting us CL footy.

And Gomes did get 6 studs in the back of the head btw.

No he isn't!

He is an international striker that has a very healthy strike rate throughout his career and with us.

He played fairly well today and was unlucky to be subbed.

I really don't get all of this liking and disliking of players? When a players plays well I like him, when he doesn't, I don't. All I am interested in is whether spurs win and I quite frankly don't give a toss who plays or who the manager is.

I'm not saying Gomes didn't get caught, but there wasn't blood, or he wouldn't have been able to play on. Simples.

I support Pav like the other 35,999 people in the ground. But doesn't mean I cant be realistic in what he actually is.

Weird game today, quite entertaining as Villa were the first team in the Premiership this season to actually attack with any purpose, although still with the usual timewasting antics from the GK and some cynical tackling. I was disappointed with Modric today, he has been the missing link in recent Prem home games where we have lacked a bit of cohesion and tempo, but whilst he did some good things I don't think he played his usual 90 minute game and was a bit wasteful in possession which is highly unusual. We were ok I thought, and showed some glimpses of brilliance often with the incredible VDV at the heart of it, but our game was littered with errors and we did look vulnerable with our makeshift defence, quite understandably.

Gomes 7 Did what he needed to, nothing special required.
Hutton 7 Decent game, defended well.
Huddlestone 5.5 He's just not a defender, and he quite understandably was all at sea today.
Bassong 5.5 I love the guy but that was a poor error today, yes he can beat Heskey for pace, but not for strength.
Ekotto 7 One almost fatal error, but generally very good.
VDV 9 Incredible, I'm on the bandwagon.
Jenas 7.5Another good, energetic performance from JJ. I think he is a good foil for VDV, they linked up well and JJ offered him good support.
Modric 6.5 Just not on his game today for me.
Bale 7 Amazing how he can appear a bit underwhelming, but you can still list a plethora of chances he has created with that weapon of a left foot. I thought Young did very well on him today. Looked like he was limping at the end, which is a worry.
Pavs 7 Not sure about these negative markings, I thought his touch was much better today, he worked hard and was unlucky not to score. I thought that was good Pavs there today, I've seen him turn out much worse games.
Crouch 7.5 Should have laid in VDV a couple of times early on when he chose the wrong option, but there's no better way to make up for that with 2 assists, the first being superb.

Lennon 6.5A little better, but he's still not on his game. It's confidence, he will find it and we will see the player of last season.
Palacios 7 Did exactly what he needed to do, made a nuisance of himself, pressed them, tackled and laid it off. I think if he had started we would have had a far greater level of control on the game.

Fair enough. That's your opinion. But it certainly wasn't my opinion or those around me.
