For as good as Bentancur was his partner in Hojbjerg was dreadful. They cannot cope in a 2 v 3 battle. It’s either time for Bissouma and Bentancur or we switch to a 3 man central midfield.

Hojbjerg loves a press, and when it comes off it great, but when it doesn't it leaves him horribly out of position.

Those 2 just need to sit and defend that midfield space and let others press.

It's been coming all season, we are so lethargic and passive in our play. I'm also concerned teams know how to play against us now and we have now plan b.

Today Hojbjerg’s passing was all over the place. Bentancur is so composed on the ball whereas Hojbjerg panics and gives the ball away.

Today we may have had a chance of snatching a draw when it was 2-1 had Conte been able to makes his changes but prior to this we were all over the place which is very concerning… we were already getting overrun in midfield and completely collapsed when Emerson was sent off. We should have been compact and difficult to break down but no, we looked a disorganised shambles.

I try and see it with Hojbjerg I really do as he gets talked up a lot but his lack of mobility is something I can’t get over, especially as you say in a midfield two and even more so against the better sides and he doesn’t have a good enough all round game to make up for it to me.

Harry is mostly a goal hanger these days, occasionally he drops deep and does a nice pass but his work ethic is not as good as Richarlison and Son so it made sense to sub those 2 to preserve them for Champions league as the game was done whem emerson went off.
If the game was done....as you say.
The player I would rest would be Harry I would have thought.
Not have him chasing around alone with so many games coming up.

Thought Perisic was appalling. I was hoping a player of his experience would make the difference in these games but he was our worst player I thought. Offered zero in attack and went missing in defence.

We weren't up for that game at all. No aggression, and royal's tap to an ankle doesn't count. But a draw was more than a likely result before the ref ended the game.

Of the players subbed on, none made a case they should be starting, which is worrying, And conte looks stupid whenever he plays sanchez on the left - even though he got away with it this time.

Richarlison 4 - motm.

Give it to Lloris, but special mention to Royal.

Conte was never gonna change an unbeaten team, let's see what happens next.

What Emerson did was stupid, but in my view it was a clear yellow. Just didn’t see the red at all. 11 v 11 and down 2-1, we have a chance. Down to 10 we have much less; it’s a refereeing error for me. He was fine the rest of the game, for the life of me still don’t see how it’s a red.
I agree. It was a late challenge but surprised by the red. It wasn't a 2 feet off the ground reckless/dangerous challenge? The 'experts' on the TV seemed to agree for the red?

Bentancur was composed and professional and my MoM and the attacking 3 looked sharp when on the ball. Very frustrating how we sit so deep and concede possession which was partially responsible for the 1st goal although obviously a great strike. If the wingbacks are not creating chances it's a waste of a midfielder when we play 3 centre backs.

Jenas just goes with the noise in the room, and when it's Keown there's plenty of it. I've seen far worse not even get a yellow. Not overly disappointed though because Conte will be forced to go with an actual WB next time out.

MOM for me was Bentancur even though he was chasing shadows for much of the game. Why the fuck Conte didn't recognise that we needed 3 in CM for this one (at least for starters) is completely beyond me. They bossed midfield right from the first whistle and grew more and more confident as we couldn't lay a glove on them.

It's a shame as the crowd and Arse were quite nervy after we equalized and got some possession, we looked like we could create at any moment but for poor decisions/technique in the final third.

Then Hugo (3) chucks one to Jesus and turned the whole atmosphere, you can tell when he is going to be dodgy as he seems hyper and his kicking in the first few minutes was appalling (like Diana Ross levels of bad)

Having said that, I'm not a fan of us setting up to be so passive and concede ground, even if he thinks this group aren't up to playing any other way he must see that when your attacking moments become so sparse that the pressure to capitalize on them becomes too much, especially with forwards like Son and Richy who are quite hit and miss in their link up play. Also Richarlison at RWF almost stands next to Kane centrally for a lot of the time, which is fine if you have a progressive RWB (like Spence?)

In the current system our LWB/LWF and RWB/RWF partnerships are linking up quite badly. Richarlison and Emerson on that side just isn't productive enough. we saw last season how well Doherty and Kulu linked up, hopefully they can rekindle that in Emerson's (ahem) absence... (but i would be equally happy to see Djed given a runout.

Bentancur (MotM) and Romero come out in credit (Romero mainly for hurting some of their players :cautious:)

It's a red card dude. His tackle went ankle height... The ball wasn't at ankle height There is no way that was less than a red

Bentancur again shows his class. MoM.

Conte clearly only play with a midfield 2 only cause he’s not interested in playing there.
Only sit back and counter- so no need for 3 men there.

not surprised by the result, because this has been written on the wall for a long time, the results earlier have just papered the cracks.

Son back to his bad form again- wasting possession with so many over/under hit balls- I mean, you play professional football - and work hours a day with the ball, but can’t weigh a pass during a game?
also very little work rate, and weak on the ball.

and don’t get me started with Royal- but think the will be a blessing in disguise.
Almost hope they appeal, and get one extra match ban?

The game also show how much Kulusevski means for this team- his composure and skillset in the final third are above anyone in this team.
So frustrated that he played on with injury from the 70’min in a complete meaningless game for Sweden.

also been disappointed with what I’ve seen from Perisic this far. Lost a yard of pace and is much less of a threat then I excepted.

don’t get this low block style.
It worked some years ago, but the best teams now are so good that they are fully aware of this and outplay this kind of football- fuck almost all of the PL teams are so good, that this isn’t a sustainable tactic anymore.
need to control games more, and really hope Conte can find a middle ground here.

We’re better of just forget this game and hope we see a different Spurs next match.
