Son was full of threat today but shoutouts too for Dier, Hojbjerg and especially Emerson, who I thought was excellent. Whole team better though, as evidenced by no sub for 75 mins (and then just sensible swap of GLC for Tanguy). They understand 4-2-3-1, it suits our personnel and hopefully Nuno realises it’s the way to go now.

Everyone played relatively well, but Son has got to be the MOTM, closely followed by Hojbjerg, and Romero a close 3rd.

Only Tanguy was off-colour today

Son was MOM, Emerson grew in confidence throughout.

Less ball watching and much better purpose/movement from the team in the second half.

Much better positioning from the forwards in the second half, made the defenders work.

Son the obvious MOM, lots of good performances all around (PEH, Emerson, Skipp, Lucas, Romero), but I went for Kane who was tactically astute, and created lots of space for Sonny by dragging defenders all over the place. We need Harry to be that good even when he doesn't score.
Plus, that backheel. And the guy almost scored from midfield.

Considering the shambles last week, that was a performance .
Looked mostly sound at the back, threw bodies in the way of most things and should have scored more goals.
Sonny mom
Very good .. Royal, Dier ,Romero .
Good ...the rest
Ok ....Ndombele

Was a lot better but feel Kane still needs to improve a lot. But atleast he tried and look interested today.

Sonny motm easily. Biggest plus for me is we're showing early signs of having a solid defence. We've needed Romero for way too long in central defence, and with Emerson looking like a real RB! Good things happen with solid foundations.

This Villa side gave far more trouble to top 4 sides than they gave us. Give Nuno time. May or may not work out but he's just got here.

Son MotM by a mile.

Thought Kane looked better but still some way off his best. Thought Romero was too aggresive coming out for their goal. NDombele some good some not so good 1st half, fitness still an issue and faded in the 2nd. GLC good when he came on.

Dier, Emerson, Skipp, PEH and Lucas all impressing too.

The biggest takeaway was how much better our midfield balance was.

Son the only answer, but Emerson was up and down, created and defended superbly, love his willingness to put his body on the line at any moment. A top fullback performance.

We should have won by three of four goals. Son MOM, but pretty much everyone was very good. Was good to see Royal finding his feet and thought he was great. Romero looks a fantastic defender, although at fault for their goal. Højbjerg had a great game. Kane could have had a hat trick on another day.

Yeah very important to take that away from this match. They have been very good against the Top 4 teams and we should easily have had another 1 or 2 more goals so that is a lot better from us.

I thought it was a spirited performance and we deserved the win, but we were extremely wasteful with our final ball. If Ndombele was on form and Son had his finishing boots on, we could've created/scored a lot more. That said, I think we looked a lot more coherent without Alli in the team and an out of form Ndombele still provided more than Dele does in that position.

Despite his misses, Son was definitely MOTM with Royal close behind. Was really impressed with Emerson's all-round performance and this was easily his best game for us. I thought Skipp and Dier also played well and most of the team were above average to good.

On the negative side Ndombele had an off-day and Romero was to blame for the goal - he would've probably got away with that in the middle of a back 3, but it was suicidal in a 4 - but aside from his occasional rashness, he looks a quality player and I like him a lot. Also felt like Lucas completely disappeared in the 2nd half aside from the goal - I think I'd like to see us try Gil in his position in the league.

Nothing spectacular but dropping Dele felt like a step in the right direction and hopefully we'll push on from here.

Son best player on the pitch but everyone was at least ok. Both FBs had a good game, Cash couldn't do anything against Regi in the first half but got the better of him in the second half a few times. Emerson Royal saved a goal and was excellent the whole match.

Son for me! All our best moments stemmed from him.
However special mention has to go to Emerson who I thought was excellent today.
