I actually thought Bentaleb was decent. I think a lot of people are trying to fit everything into the anti-Bentaleb narrative. I don't think he should be playing every game like this either, but he wasn't bad. I actually thought Dembele was fairly overrated today. He slows us up too much trying to burn his man with a sick dribble 60 yds from goal when a simple pass would do. He fades late in games too.

Tough to pick a MOTM though. Adebayor wasn't exactly great either. Lloris did what he had to. Fairly dire performance and fortunate win.
Bentaleb was not good at all. Dont mistake him pressing further up the pitch in the 2nd half as being decent. He was not good today in the slightest. He was poor. As was Lennon, Dawson and Paulinho.

I don't think anyone stood out for me all that much, Vertonghen might just shade it for me I guess

Lloris - 7.5 - Some excellent saves and distribution much improved.

Walker - 6.5 - Had so many chances to put in a good delivery but messed up every single time. That being said, excellent defensively and smart on the goal.
Dawson/Vertonghen - 6.5 - Both did well enough at containing the Everton attack.
Rose - 7 - Bombed up and down the touchline often providing our only width on that side, beaten only a couple times all game, some great deliveries.

Lennon - 4 - Fucking anonymous again. Maybe touched the ball 10 times in 90 minutes. Tracked back more in the 2nd half.
Dembele - 7.5 - Lost the ball a couple times but he was everywhere and generally pretty dominant.
Paulinho - 5 - Very anonymous as well. Seems to still be trying to come back after the injury. Wasn't great tracking back either.
Bentaleb - 7 - People slag him off and sometimes I can kind of understand why but he was very good today. Cut out a lot of attacks, always distributed well, and his off the ball positioning defensively was very good.
Eriksen - 6.5 - No clue why he was subbed, worked hard in defense and was always trying to get the ball in attack and do something. Maybe a little bit of final quality lacking today.

Adebayor - 7.5 - Outstanding goal, ran a lot, linked up play well, held up play well. I don't think it's his best performance or anything, but very good display and won us the 3 points.

Townsend - 6 - Didn't really do much in attack which was kind of surprising but did good defensively which was important.
Capoue - 7 - Shut down Barkley and cut out a couple of attacks.
Defoe - NET - Shame he couldn't grab a goal, maybe he'll get a chance v Dnipro. Club legend.

Sherwood - 5 - Another pretty poor 1st half display that he managed to turn around in the second half, to his credit...I liked the Capoue <-> Paulinho sub, however, the Eriksen sub was very very strange.
Bentaleb let Everton go by him without even budging too many times today. Hardly call that good positioning defensively.

Lloris made a few world class saves to keep us in that so he gets MOM. Dembele stepped up today and worked his bollocks off but was hampered by the usual things he struggles with. So funny watching him just brushing players aside. Walker was also really good apart from a dodgy start to the game position-ally. Ade worked hard and scored a top class goal. Verts was tidy at the back but Dawson dived in to much. Rose was the good, the bad and the ugly. And occasionally great.

Bentaleb and Paulinho were both passengers. Lennon was wank. Eriksen wasn't on top form but needed more options from the players around him.

Capoue great when he came on

Lloris - 7 not much to do, nothing to screw up

Rose - 7 one of his better efforts

Verts - 7.25 looked closer to his old self

Daws - 7 I recall him diving in and getting left behind only once! He was fine today.

Walker - 6.5 nice assist but otherwise not good today, and I think he's been one of our best this season

Lennon -4 just awful lately. even the effort.

Paulinho - 6.5 better today but still way off form

Nabil - 7 does what he does - which isnt enough - competently.

Dembele - 7.5 MOTM for me

Ericksen - 6.5 wasted on the left, like Modric was. Same thing I said last week.

Adebayor - 7.25 worked his socks off again. great goal.

I dont get all the negativity. That was a back and forth game between two good clubs with a lot at stake. It could have gone either way but the good guys won! I would have liked to see more in the final third, but some of that was due to Everton, who are always well organized.

Dembele was my MotM. Not a flawless performance by any means, but he always looked like he was trying to make something happen when on the ball, and closed down well when off it.

I don't think Sherwood wants Ericksen on the left, just limited options. I feel he may drop Paulino, move Ericksen inside and bring Townsend in on the left / right.

Lots of fight today, but a shocking lack of technique. Gave the ball away far too often.

Controversial choice maybe, but Danny Rose was my MOTM. He was excellent.

Lloris 7 - A couple of very good saves early on.

Walker 6 - Good vision for the goal. He's end product was pretty poor overall though and he had a fewe brain farts defensively in the first half.
Dawson 7 - Solid
Vertonghen 8 - Good to have him back
Rose 6 - Pretty good defensively. Final ball was a let down.

Lennon 4 - Worse than bad.
Bentaleb 6 - Gave away the ball a bit and was out of position at times, but never stopped working and had a lot of ground to cover because....
Paulinho 5 - Loves to get forward, but doesn't look for the ball enough and his defensive work was terrible today.
Dembele 6 - Alright. Some good play and some very poor play. He's much better from a deeper position.
Eriksen 6 - Wasn't really in the game, although I wouldn't have taken him off. Put in two good corners that could/should have ended up with goals (especially Dawson's header).

Adebayor 7.5 - Done well with the little service he got and took the goal brilliantly.

Townsend 5- Should have come on for Lennon really. Didn't do anything when he came on and in the last minute of the game he was 5 yards goal side of Coleman on the halfway line and never tracked back which really pissed me off. Thankfully Everton didn't make the most of them having a two-on-one with Rose.
Capoue 5 - I agreed with the sub, but he was pretty poor when he was on and was lucky not to give away a penalty with a stupid tackle.
Defoe N/A - Strange substitution (not a criticism of Defoe).

I agree, but he gets paid to make the tough choices. For most of the time Luka was here we played a 4-4-2 and everyone was afraid he wasnt strong enough but it turns out he flourished once he was moved into the middle. In a 3 man midfield its even less a concern. And besides that, it hasnt even been established that Paulinho and Ericksen cant play together in the middle.

Lloris - 8 - MotM for me. Top quality saves early in the 1st half and cut out numerous attacks.

Walker - 6.5 - Struggled defensively in 1st half. Improved in the 2nd and quick thinking for the assist.
Dawson - 6.5 - Did ok for the most part especially considering how exposed the midfield left our defence at times.
Vertonghen - 7 - Looking more like the Jan we know and got better throughout.
Rose - 7 - Started shaky, but was a good option down the left and created our only real chance in 1st half. Better from him.

Paulinho - 5 - Was he there? Still looks rusty and not match sharp. It will be great when he hits form again.
Bentaleb - 6 - Not great today. I'm not a hater like some on here, but he gave away the ball too much and not his usual composed self.
Dembele - 7 - Our only real presence in Midfield. Strong on the ball, just wished his final ball was that bit better. A better final pass and he would have caused Everton all sorts of problems. Our only midfielder to cause them problems though.

Lennon - 5 - Poor passing and decision making. Offered very little.
Eriksen - 6 - Struggled to get into the game. Can see why he was taken off as he wasn't influencing the game much and the end to end stuff suited a more direct player on the wing.

Adebayor - 7.5 - Very good performance given the lack of service and the quality of Everton's defence. Great strength and finish for the goal and good graft. Best outfield player.

Subs: None really had much chance to impact the game, but wasn't completely against them. Townsend gave us a better counter attack option and Eriksen struggled to get into it. Paulinho was poor and Capoue gave us more solidity.

Everton probably feel robbed given their 1st half performance, we have Lloris to thank for them not scoring. Thought it was more even in the 2nd half. Still it is 3 points, whilst we were not at our best and some of our returning players got some good match fitness. Already seen Vertonghen looking much more like his old self and hopefully Paulinho and Townsend will get back to match fitness soon too.
