Excellent - Son
Good - Eriksen, Janssen, back 4, Lloris
Fine - everyone else

We were never really in danger even in the last 20, we should have put them to the sword and had a shaky few minutes after they scored but we shut them out well last 20.

Alli looking better and better as a CM and delighted to see Winks come on and see the game out.

Sonny is having the season we all knew he was capable of.

Janssen is such a brute, never loses the ball (not sure what game others are watching when I read nonsense about him losing the ball). He's there to bring out attacking midfielders into the game whilst having the ability to finish if the opportunity presents itself. We'll miss Kane's goals but Janssen will be an excellent understudy

Erm, not sure about that. There were plenty on here happy to be shot of him in the summer.

Sissoko. Seen him twice and he has a final ball on a par with Aaron Lennon. He was embarrassed by his 'effort' for the boro goal and couldn't wait to get off the field.
We have bought the Newcastle model rather than the France limited edition.
I hope he proves me wrong but unless my eyes deceive me I think he is already looking sulky.

Neither Lamela nor Son were particularly impressive for their first season either. Let's just have faith that Poch will get him straightened sooner or later.

Didn't see much of the 2nd half, but a shout out to Wanyama for the 1st half. He really got about the Middlesbrough players and imposed himself physically on the game. Exactly the sort of away game with a swirling wind, where we've been bullied in the past, but he made sure there was none of that early doors.

I really like Alli but I wish sometimes he'd play with more intensity. I know some players look like they don't care, when in fact it's just their style (like Berba) but Alli is so much better when he's all out action. He's slowing the play down at mo & I don't know if that's Poch's orders or what but he should be playing in a more dynamic role. The slowing down can come at a later date. That said, I think he played very well first half.

Wanyama was in full beast mode first half. Everyone played well really. Special mention for Verts' passing out of defence, even under pressure I don't think he ever misplaces a pass. I know he got caught poncing about once but overall thought he was very good.

Janssen did well, his hold up play was excellent until he tired around the hour mark. Sissoko was poor today. Eriksen very good bar one pass which was possibly the worst pass in the history of football. Everyone else was good. Son MOTM, he's like a new signing and further proof of massive knee jerking from some who just can't accept it when a player doesn't hit the ground running in their first season. His dribbling only works around 1 in 4 times but fuck me, when it works, it works brilliantly. What a goal.

Overall, excellent. People are pissed off because Boro got more of a grip on the game in the second half, but in all honesty, we were still massively in control. It only seemed like they had a grip because we were so completely dominant first half that any time they had the ball for more than 15 seconds in the second half, it looked like they were more of a threat, but they really weren't. Also we had a stonewall pen, and 2 missed sitters by Alli and Eriksen. We were as good as any team around first half, bar our finishing. All this without 3 of our best players.

Like a few others from the match thread, I was left a bit irritated at the end of the game. I couldn't really pinpoint what it was that made the teams performance drop so drastically in the second half. It was a real jekyll and Hyde performance. Only thing I can think of, is that someone poured invisible treacle on the pitch and it slowed us down. The first half saw us attacking with intent and speed. The high press worked a treat. When that changed, boro came at us a bit more.

Yes we won and got a great 3 points. But when you see what the side can do, it's so annoying when the foot comes off the accelerator.

Shout to Son, who seems to have really fought for his place and must have worked really hard to get his form back.

Only real criticism, was of Sissoko. I thought he was wasteful, 1 particular moment the ball was almost floating down to him, and he fluffed it. Must do better. (Hope he does).

What was Alli's game plan? Did he have a free role in the first half? He was a constant threat, bit wasteful at times. But i thought he was poaching in Janssen territory a bit? Maybe i misread it.

Biggest irritant was of Pochettino. Obviously his initial game plan was spot on, but he didn't change it up quickly enough when boro adapted / things slowed down. He needs to manage in game changes better, and sooner. Plan B.

But it's 3 points and we roll on. COYS

Sissoko looked shocking today. Absolutely shocking. We might as well played with 10 men and no one ahead of Walker.

Son gets an 8 and everyone else 7 a piece.
I didnt watch the game, why was he so shit? Poor passing and touch or more so work ethic?

I think his work ethic was the best part. But he was generally poor. At one point he was in the box, a ball from heaven was floating down to him, he had all the time he wanted to line it up. He didn't even touch it.

There was another moment when he could easily have threaded a ball through to son (?) on the attack and lost it to opposition.

Hope he does well in the future, but no denying that Sissoko was really shit today.

Son easily MotM. I thought he was a brilliant signing, but then had a disappointing season. Now he's starting to look like the player I thought we were getting.

The problem with all the low ratings is that despite all the money, the wages and the fame footballers are human

Sissoko is being slated in his first few games, Jansen too....yet Son who just a few weeks ago was according to a number of posters s**t won us the game with two great goals

I get it - this is the place to rate players in one game but some context is necessary

otherwise you end up sounding like Francis Gibb in the Lamela thread, and no sane person wants that surely?

Defenders and Goalie: 6.5 all around. They didn't have a whole lot to do and messed up collectively at a rotten free kick. All played a great part in the domination of the early part of 6nd half. Lloris with some good sweeper actions.
Alli: Loads of running, little content. 6
Wanyama: Triffic lad, 7
Sissoko: 5
Eriksen: 7
Son: 15 minutes of greatness (10), otherwise 7
Janssen: 6

You're spot on. A couple of games doesn't tell the full picture. It'll take a while for him to settle in etc. But, for a game rating thread, about a specific game, I don't think it's unreasonable to discuss a player having a poor game. He might be motm next match. In the player watch thread, which is more of an overall pov, that's more of a slating.

Anyway, 3 points and job done.

Hang on a moment, Sissoko was shit and there's nothing wrong with saying it. Obviously if people start saying he's a flop and will never come good, that's going too far, but today was a poor performance. All the context in the world doesn't change that.

Didn't manage to see the game today but amazing result.

How was Janseen?

And really dissapointed to hear the Sissoko ratings/feedback. Did he play CM or RAM and were there any positives at all? Do we think it's a case of him needing time to bed in or have we spunked £30mil?

He had a few outstanding performances for Newcastle and looked qualify for France, I never thought he was worth £30 mil but I was excited that we were signing someone with attributes our squad lacked such as pace, power and directness which would especially be helpful when Demebele is out like today. We got the win but dissapointed to hear Sissoko was so bad...

Any rational feedback please, what was good what was bad?

If you want me to try to put it in terms of stats and numbers, rather than subjective shite;
2nd to Janssen only, Sissoko saw the ball (had possession of it) by far the least of all Spurs players. His successful passing rate in % was the weakest. He hardly imposed himself on the defence apart from one shot over the bar.

More subjective observations; he mostly jogged or walked around the pitch, and didn't display any real pace. He did work home a handful of times, but I personally didn't see him pressing at all. I can't remember any important passes, but I do remember a couple of passes that could have been vital being executed to a horrible degree. He definitely did not play as a part of the CMs, so I can only assume that he was supposed to be an AM/wide forward.

The only directness I saw of him was when he headed for the changing rooms at half time. :p

Janssen wasn't THAT much better, I'll be honest with you, but he had a nice assist and showed some promise in his hold up play.

I'm absolutely certain that we did not commit to paying a total of 30 million for Sissoko. Whatever the total number that we HAVE to pay is regardless, it's bound to be lower. Otherwise it's a crap business decision.
