Thought Vertonghen was pony. Should have done a lot better with the first goal and he was cowardly for the second goal.

The momentum was starting to wane before the subs. Changes were needed.

Disagree. I think taking off Lamela, who along with alli seems to be the only people in the squad who can pick a bloody forward pass was a mistake.
And bringing on Janssen up top and dropping kane deep since kane can't be dropped out the team no matter how shite and greedy he plays was the nail in the coffin.

Soldado fuckin wept!

Lloris 6
Walker 6
Toby 7
Vertonghen 5 - where is Wimmer. Complacent Jan is back.
Davies 6 - feel sorry for him, he wasn't bad, just isn't Danny Rose!
Dier 4
Alli 7.5 MOM.
Lamela 5
Eriksen 5
Son 5 - takes his early chance and we win comfortably.
Kane 5 - give the guy a rest, looks so so so lethargic.

Dembele 6
Janssen 7 - surprised he is being marked so low in here, he was the only one, with Alli, that looked like doing anything.
Sissoko net

Wembley 8/10
Champions league music 10/10

Front four were absolutely turd first half, not much better second but at least Alli tried to make things happen.

All in all, not great but we probably didn't deserve to lose.

Lloris 5 - Beaten at his near post; kicking terrible.

Walker 7 - Showed great urgency going forward and rarely let his attacker past.

Alderweireld 7 - Great header and sound defensively as per

Vertonghen 5 - Poor opening 20mins and looked shaky for the remainder. Weak in 1-on-1s

Davies 6 - Had a tough game against the excellent Lemar, but still put in a sound display

Dier 4 - All over the shop. Beaten time and time again on the counter and offered little with his passing.

Alli 7 - Wasted in CM in the first half before moving forward. Tired badly however.

Lamela 5 - Worked hard but struggled to influence proceedings

Eriksen 3 - What the hell was that? If you're not going to make any runs off the striker as a number 10, you better link the play. Wasted almost every ball forward.

Son 5 - On the periphery, but showed flashes of threatening play.

Kane 7 - Had to create most of his own chances with clever turns off his marker. Done well with the little service he received

After my episode in the pub (turns out mahogany is a "hard wood" please see previous reference) I've decided to give out awards not ratings.

Ronan Keating Award: Mousa Dembele: "you do it best when you do nothing at all" When Moose becomes a coach, it would be amazing if he could teach other players to be 'generally big', 'generally in the way' and to 'generally pass it forward'. Turns out this is an invaluable quality that gives us balance. Happy to see it return.

Michael Phelps award: Jansen: "olympic death stare". I'll give him a 6/10 rating for the stare where that bloke acted like he had been stabbed. if someone makes it into a meme than I'll raise that to a 7. Staring contests aside I think he's pushing for a start ahead of Harry due to likelihood to get a goal. He can clearly hold the ball up.

90's music award: Verts: "it wasn't me". I lost in the area, it wasn't me. Should have won that header it wasn't me" let me shout a bit louder, shite BT caught it camera! I rate the guy so highly as a an round CB. When you play all round badly your all round score will reflect 4/10

Lawnmower award: Dele "every blade". I noticed when Dembele stormed forward you'd see Dele filling in in the middle. If this was VdV I would give him a 7.5 out of 10 for the positivity, quality and not quite pulling it off., Bearing in mind this guy started in League one 15 months ago and ended with two Monaco players marking him....9/10. It reminds me of a Lampard with flare, he needs to make efficient his brilliant. But even when not efficient he still adds so much value, keep it up.

Sin Cos Tan Award: Eriksen "corners". If you saw a highlight real of Erikeen taking corners tonight it would be quite a collection and you'd assume he was heavily involved. If you expanded that reel to all his value this eve there would be a bit of nose picking and maybe bum fingering, but that's it. Quality needs to be applied consistent, no doubt he has it.

Danny Rose Award: Kyle Walker: "own the line". Thought he was good up and down, to the extend Danny usually is. Can't fault the award...maybe I should calll it the ironic FB award.

Genesis award: HM Son: "you're no son, no son of mine" sang old man Collins, faded like my daz whites.

BBB award: Eric Dier: "
Billy Big Bollocks", Eric was at his best when people doubted he could play DM for spurs, then again for england. Now we know he can do both he doesn't defend like he is the last line. He's a bit "i would rather play it forward 20 yrds". Cont with the B theme. Back to Basics please Erico

Danny Rose MOTM

But seriously, I thought the whole team were lethargic. I'd give it to Sissoko, at least he was running in the right direction!

No patience on the ball.. too many times just playing 50/50 balls or hopeful punts.. typical English novices in Europe.. Monaco gave a masterclass in how to play away in Europe.. our distances between the lines was to big in first half.. first twenty of 2nd we compressed the play & pushed up however didn't show the patience to move them around & play side to side until the opening appeared... last 20 our backline dropped off again & we got stretched again.

Far from end of the world if we learn from this & can still qualify to knock-outs.. I think we either have to compress the play like we did for 20 mins of 2nd half (although not send the fullbacks forward at the same time.. that I think was the reason our CB started to drop deeper again.. we just have to be more careful that our fullbacks are coming onto the ball & not overcommitted..if Walker is furthest advanced then Davies has to drop back for us to remain compact) or which I think might be the best suited for us is to drop off & play a low press & hit teams on the break.. this would have to include more pace in attacking four..

Really p*ssed off we turned off from a throw-in.. other than that we just got out-done by a more streetwise team..

Lloris 6 - kicking abysmal
Walker 8 - well played
Toby 8 - likewise
Jan 3 - drop him please looks off the pace
Davies 5 - silva to fast to good
Dier 5 - worst game in a Spurs shirt slow clumsy ponderous tired and off the pace

Alli 8 - very good tried more than anyone else

Lamela 4 - lost his form but soon as he went off we lost all our impotence as usual so weird

Eriksen 3 - is poch fucking his missus? Or does Eriksen have something on him as how week after the week he stays on pitch I'm not sure thought he turned the corner we after the contract singing but then he goes straight back into his shell

Son 5 - why the hell did he get taken off?! Only player with pace that could beat a man

Kane 5 - criminal not to pass at Janssen once and needs to pass

Sissoko - loved his drive when he beat 3 men on the touch line

Janssen - does he have to foul? Makes it so obvious as well eyes on the man at all times instead of the ball. Also the pass through to sissoko awful.

Dembele - great at times but obviously rusty

Poch 4 - had the team wrong, the midfield was a midfield that had one defensive minded player who well quite frankly looked fucked.

Jenas 0 - berating our players and saying they should do this and that and they were this and that well in all honesty he couldn't have done it when he was on the pitch or he would have done worse!!

Thought Sissoko came on way too late. We needed drive and he looked sparky

For all the players we have, we do keep playing the same ones all the time

Toby MOTM. Great long passing, drove us forward and got the goal. So frequently good we take him for granted

The thing is football is an easy game if you use your noggin & show some composure.. Toby consistently plays with his head, concentrates & should get the captains armband.. it would sends a message that consistency of good performance gets rewarded.. I think it would be a good message to send to a young squad

By the time Dembele had been on the pitch 10 minutes he had already done enough to be our motm. Was head and shoulders above the rest of the players today (though Alderweireld and Walker get an honourable mention).

Maybe we need Kane to do some eye gouging and get a 6 match ban.

No way can wembley be blamed, the atmosphere was truly amazing. We simply were not at our best today and were just plain average.

The thing is, our 'average' was still better than them, we just were not clinical enough and we made some silly mistakes.

Yes I would be giving them the hairdryer treatment if I was poch, but deep down, there is nothing there that would be seriously worrying me. On another day we would have beaten them by two or three.

We pick ourselves up and we go again.

PS not sure why Son is getting such a battering, they were all average. No one can be singled out imo.

My thoughts on the game seem to differ to most people, so apologies if I'm talking BS.

Lloris- Not really at fault for any of the goals

Walker- People saying he was our best player- I don't see what he did to deserve that. He didn't do much.

Alderweireld- Good header, don't think he was at fault for any of the goals.

Vertonghen- I said to my mate next to me that it wasn't only Lamela's fault for Silva's goal. I initially thought it was Toby who had allowed Bernardo Silva to run at us and finish on his left foot, turns out it was JV. Looks like he was also at fault for the 2nd goal. Not good.

Davies- Didn't do enough going forward.

Dier- Pretty average, hasn't reached the heights of last season.

Alli- Again, I didn't think he was great but others seem to think he had a good game. Spends too much time trying to nutmeg people. Looked absolutely knackered at the end to be fair.

Son- Should've scored- I actually thought he was at least trying to do something in the 1st half, and shouldn't have come off.

Eriksen- Like his pre-Stoke form.

Lamela- Largely at fault for the first goal and it wasn't a good performance from him overall.

Kane- Was more involved than in previous games, but his finishing was truly abysmal. Really poor from him, and I think Janssen should start on Sunday.

Subs:

Dembele- Was quite good when he came on, missed seeing his ability on the ball.

Janssen- Again, I thought he showed good strength/touches when he came on, but others seem to think he was poor. Although, after watching his ball for Sissoko again, I can see where the frustration came from.

Sissoko- Meh. Maybe should've come on earlier.

Don't get the Janssen Soldado
Comparison, yes he needs to score but he is very young and hasn't had many chances.

Secondly he is the best forward at holding the ball up and linking play we have had in years, Soldado on the other hand was in every defenders pocket, nice guy but physically very weak and pushed around.

Janssen is a proper target man, out and out number 9 who we can play off.
