Controlled possession and a lot of that, particularly in the first half, was down to GLC. Htf Fleck didn’t get sent off god only knows.

Bale and Aurier just outstanding, can’t separate them for motm.

No poor performances on the night even if Harry left the shooting boots at home, loved the energy Reggie put in. Toby and Dier comfortable night and played out from the back nicely.

Have been critical of Dele but he put in a good shift, still signs of rust but didn’t look out of place.

Well done Mason, I was worried he’d start Winks again but resisted and set his team up well with a good attitude and a bit of freedom to play.

Lloris - 6 - Spectator
Aurier- 8 - Very good, great assists
Toby - 7- Calm and lovely distribution
Dier - 6 - Untroubled but not a fan
Reguilon - 7 - Bags of energy, refreshing, can’t wait until he scores
Hojbjerg - 5 - Sloppy and slow for me today, been a great signing but he needs the season to end
Lo Celso - 7 - Like him deeper, great player, horrible stamp
Alli - 7 - Lovely to see him back, nice touches
Son - 7 - Much more like himself, cracking goal
Bale - 10 - Outstanding performance, incredible finishing
Kane - 6 - Poor today, not on it. Carrying the injury still?

John Fleck - 0 - Horrible bastard

PS - Not sure what Ndombele has done wrong, worrying ??‍♂️

Reguilon and Aurier by some distance. The fullbacks absolutely set the platform for everything good we did, not just getting forward and getting involved in possession but their aggression and energy to press and steam into the opposition.

Almost thought I'd teleported back four years.

I hadn't realised how much I'd stopped enjoying watching football. What a tonic that was. Great fun.

Serge my Motm, creativity and hard work. Top performance.

Bale, he made those.finishes look so easy and relaxed. Class. What could have been....

Why on earth did this get a spam rating? What was negative?

It might only be Sheffield Utd but we have recent history of making everyone look good since we conceded possession to everyone. Players all looked like they wanted the ball, not seen that for a while, and we were actually controlling the ball a lot more even under press. I'll give Mason a 9.

Bale 10
Aurier 9.6
Son 9
Reggie 8
Kane 6
Everyone else 7

I hope this can lil upturn in PL form continues. The players look happier playing on the front foot.

Didn’t manage to watch the first half due to poor wifi, so can only base on the second half and the highlights of the first goal.

Lloris 6 nothing to do
Aurier 9 possibly his best game for us. 2 lovely passes
Alderweireld 7 composed, still got the eye for a pass
Dier 6 without the mistakes he’s quite competent
Reguilon 7 much better defensively
Hojbjerg 7 standard performance, mopped everything up
Lo celso 7 keeps the ball moving which helps us control games.
Dele 5 didn’t really do much that contributed positively (although commentary did note he was better in the first half so clearly tailed off.
Son 7 threatened in behind, well taken goal. Not sure about his corners
Kane 5 oddly off colour tonight. Fortunately didn’t affect the team or the result
Bale 10 all the things I’d hoped for when he signed. Such quality, and workrate off the ball too.

Subs
Winks 4 still looks lost out there.
Bergwijn 7 confidence is clearly coming back. Good cross and a good assist
Lamela 6 standard sub performance from him

All in all a good nights work but can’t ignore the fact that Sheffield Utd are woeful. We won’t get an easier game. We were made to look good by them from what I saw so I won’t be using this game to judge much in terms of recovery. The Leeds game will be a much better yardstick.

Credit to mason for getting the selection right in the main, although I was surprised to see dele start and even more baffled by the winks sub. Ndombele is clearly not appreciated right now, unless we are putting players in the shop window.

Agree with most of this. Though a teeny tiny bit harsh on Dele. I thought he grew into the game, and was by no means at the same level as Kane today. Who really wasn't at the races for some reason. Indeed, it was rather worrying to see that potentially the worst of our starting XI today was Kane. For some reason he seemed listless. And his body language wasn't hugely enthusiastic. Could be injury related. Could be he doesn't want to get hurt before the Euros... could be reports of him wanting off are true, but he's bummed, 'cos he knows the liklihood of that happening is borderline impossible.

The optimist in me wants to say it was simply a case of he's still feeling his ankle injury and isn't thrilled with how his body is responding.

It’s “Man of the Match”, not player so I’m writing in Ryan Mason!
His lineup said flat-out, “we’re attacking!”
plus, he’s again shown with Dele & even SB, to a certain extent, that everyone that wants out of the doghouse will be let out - which does trouble me about NDombele.

We beat them by 2 (3-1) and they actually had more shots on target than us (12 vs 10) that game.
Fair, forgot they grabbed one. They also weren't already relegated back then and still had Wilder at the helm. And we're also far better at home than away. The point is they are a shocking side.

The same winks whose last ditch block helped keep our clean sheet?
This is a really fair point. I actually thought it was PEH at first. But to Winks credit, he threw his body on the line for that one. But on the ball... ?

A good overall performance. Bale obvious MOM for 3 superbly taken goals but there were sone other good individual performances not least Aurier.
A few points:
Fleck should have had a red. I’m incredulous that the VAR man cannot see that he looks down so knows exactly where he putting his foot.
I know technically Son is offside but it’s wrong that players whose feet are a yard or so behind the last defender, who then receives the ball to feet, runs forty plus yards and scores with his feet has his goal disallowed because his shoulder is an inch or two ahead of the last defender. On such close calls it should be judged on whether the body part that scores is off side. We see so many tight offsides given for the shoulder being marginally offside but very few goals are scored by the shoulder. I know it’s a bit much to ask of football administrators and officials but some common sense would be refreshing.
Thought Kane had a stinker. Not sure if it’s injury related or all the media BS about him staying or not at Spurs. I know it’s my team and I’m biased but I always think its terrible bad form for the press and pundits to be actively encouraging players to leave their clubs.

I enjoyed this game. We were on the front foot, looking for the ball, and there was some great finishes. Shit I’ve missed it.

Good on ya Ryan Mason, for encouraging and being positive, after that shower of shite last week.

Bales composure was quite audacious, it did make it look like it was a friendly. Good to see Sonny hit the back of the net twice too.

Just watched a replay - noticeable how much joy and togetherness there seemed to be after Son’s goal for the forth

What a contrast to the Everton and Newcastle games.

Can’t remember the time the team seemed so content
