My worry is if Dembele gets injured, I thought he was class today. Was at the heart of our ability to keep the ball so well and just glides so effortlessly with it as well, ghosting past people and opening up space for others to receive the ball. Not sure if anyone remembers as they wern't last ditch tackles, but he won a fair few tackles today very impressively.

Vert was excellent as well, and obviously Defoe - and lets be fair he should have had an assist today as well, had Sig taken that gift. In fact 4 goals and a assist could well of materialised for him today.

Sig's pass for Lennon was sublime and I thought the latter was excellent today, great pull back for Defoe's first.

Magnificent support.

The team shut the home crowd up and the Yid Army took over. I loved hearing Glory Glory Allelujah. Well done to all those who went; you were superb.

Because we didn't rotate at all in the Europa last season, did we?

But AVB will give a shit about the competition and go to these games with a purpose. Unlike Harry who slagged the competition off, almost immediately. So it will be a rotation with a purpose and not just a half asked approach to rotation and attitude to the competition.

Just had my dinner, and its probably been said, but great to AVB with a beaming smile. I could be wrong, but is that the first time he has smiled live on air?

Dembele was excellent in the main and like you said, he takes possession cleanly and strides forward with purpose and intent which is really pleasing to see and will be a big threat all season.

As I've said earlier on in the thread, even in his Tottenham infancy, he's integral to our future plans for sure!

Surprisingly no boo boys were in that crowd. True supporters. Like you, so proud of our away support - sometimes wish I didn't have three kids under 5 and could go back on th road. Miss away games.

You know what the real positive for me in all this is...over the long haul we'll pick up more points up playing like this. The balance was perfect today and that's what will yield better results over the long run.

Yeah Reading were poor, but we made them look poor to - people need to remember that. I expected them to start far more aggressively but our ability to control the game so well was definitely deflating them.

Just watched the game (been at work) and very pleased with what I saw. No pressure and I love it when we use our subs well like today. AVB has obviously learnt a lot from his time at chelsea as I think he manages player game time pretty well. Verty looked class, Dembele looked class, Defoe looked very sharp and Lennon seemed like his usual dangerous self. Can't wait to see us put out a strong side against Lazio.

Vertonghen was absolutely brilliant, Sandro is an absolute beast! Defoe had best game I've ever seen him as a lone striker. I think Lennon was actually one of the best players on the pitch today some great cut backs.Bale and dembele did well too and walker was ok.

Only negatives for me were that still Friedel doesnt command his box, Gallas still doesnt look sharp enough for me and too slow to release the ball and i hope caulker doesnt leave due to him not playing. Sigurdsson still hasnt quite got it yet, bit one paced and loses the ball too much. Lastly i think Naughton was extremely weak as hes a VERY one footed player playing on the wrong side. Every chance came from his man getting loose and crossing seemed to not switch on. Really annoyed me all game and against a better team wed be punished. At fault for last goal as well, as was walker massively and friedel a slight extent.

I dont want to focus on negatives though as overall ive probably been a little picky and we were Very very good today. Will only improve to, great win!

Rating this 'dumb' seems a bit harsh- perhaps someone's finger slipped though.

Re. Gallas and Caulker, someone said recently Gallas was in because his experience in the English league would help Vertonghen settle after which Caulker/ Kaboul would slot in. No idea of its true but it makes sense.

I couldn't agree more. We might not score as many goals but at the same time teams won't find it as easy to cut through us like Redknapps sides.

I might regret saying this but I really doubt that any side will score 5 goals against like what happened on 3 seperate occasions last season.

We quite simply didn't give Reading a chance to play. Our midfield were dominant, especially in the first half. I honestly think if we'd had this team in place by the Newcastle game we'd be on at least 10 points, but thats irrelevant now. Onwards and upwards! (y)

What would that twat Merson say about us now after that good performance. He will probably
still pick faults because he's Harry's mate. To be honest I don't care I saw good signs today. I can't wait for Thursday it will be my first game this season at the lane.
