Love the pre season optimism. After the Sheff Utd result and Bournemouth performance most were baying for blood. Im normally quite pragmatic but even I wanted Mourinho gone! Football is scarily fickle sometimes and it's amazing the difference a few wins makes but the jury is still well out for me. I wouldn't be comfortable making any predictions for next season really, could go either way. One thing is for certain though, lose a few games early on and the fans will turn.

At the end of the day though mate, we're 4th since Mourinho took over, that's the most telling stat of the lot.

And now we're making signings we need to be making, so it's pretty natural that most are optimistic given Mourinho's previous success and experience.

I don’t know why folk are going on like top 4 is such a huge step away from where we are currently.

Yes we finished outside the top 4, but our form since Jose’s arrival already has us pegged as the 3rd-strongest team in the league.

Now in reality Chelsea have strengthened absurdly well so far, but United and Arsenal haven’t, and I’ve seen nothing to suggest City are getting any stronger.

Given that we’re finally plugging holes which have needed plugging for ages, GLC and Bergwijn have now bedded in, and we’ve managed to ship out players like Eriksen who didn’t want to be here any more, I see no reason why with one or two more smart signings we can’t make a solid push for top 3.

Duncan Castles is saying we've been offered Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez from Almeria. Personally think Castles is a bit of a spoof cadet but he def has connections with Mourinho. Anyone have any clue what Nunez is like??‍♂️?

He survives by being the fittest.

Good post.

I think Utd are definitely catchable. They only finished 7pts ahead of us.

As for Arsenal, I don't even consider them a top 7 club anymore. Unless they start signing 3 or 4 players with proven quality, I'll be worrying more about Wolves' and Leicester's steady progression up the table.

On First glance Chelsea looked to have signed really good players- individually they look great buys . But a look at how they will line up - their potential XI looks awfully light weight. Werner, Ziyech, Pulisic, Kante, Chilwell,James , Mount all under 6 feet. Havertz is tall but slight frame.
Chelsea may take apart some sides but this side will concede goals from set piece and struggle middle of park to win the balls

I hear you, but the sheer quality and pace of their team now can get around any height/strength disadvantages imo. City's team has never been the biggest either and they do fine at set pieces as they are organised and have 2-3 good headers of the ball and a big goalie to claim it. Chelsea are missing a good keeper, that's all imo.

And they've brought in a 36 year old defender who's been playing In France for the last 8 years. He's in for a shock.

After last year's extremely low points tally for 3rd and 4th, I think next year could be a very competitive PL.

Man Utd have found their feet and look much stronger with Ģreenwood and Fernandes in the side, Chelsea have signed about 5 great players and I suspect Arsenal will also be stronger with Saliba in defence and an improving Saka. I think we have a shot at top 4 but I'm in no way confident and I think it would take a fight reminiscent of Harry getting us there against the odds back in 09/10.

I think we're more likely to win a cup - probably Europa but maybe one of the domestic ones.
