These are shocking comments from Harry and i honestly think he should be considering his position as manager after this.

His goal should be to win every game, no matter what competition that is in and no matter where that ends you up.

Is this not just mind games a la Jose?

Remember, Harry tells lies!

If we are going to be playing Europa football, surely it's an ideal opportunity to put our younger players out there to gain experience with Spurs, at least the ones we don't get rid of over the summer break.

What a chance for them to break into the first team - more satisfying in some ways than going out on loan and it will give the regular first team squad players a rest between League games where hopefully we will be vying for CL football again.

I suppose Levy will say the wages bill is too high to keep them all, but some of them are certainly worth keeping and preparing for a more permanent future at the Lane.

"It's magnificent to be in Europe, and this club - a club like Tottenham Hotspur - if we're not in Europe.... we're nothing. we're nothing."

I heard the interview and I can't say i'm happy about this. I remember the times when I was at school in the late 90s and I would have loved for us to be in any european competion and we just never made it apart from one year after we won the cc in 99 and we went out early to a German team I think, was it Kaiserslautern? Anyway I was gutted. Was only 7 in 91 after the fa cup win so have no recollection of that uefa cup run.

Between 2000-2010 we qualified for europe how many times? Not more than 4 surely. Yes the format of the europa league now is far from ideal and there's little money in it compared to the cl but personally i don't care. I'd rather be in europe than not at all but obviously harry sees it different and can't be bothered and for me that's disappointing. I want to see my team in europe regardless. I now see it as they don't believe in 4th and will not bust a gut for 5th since the noises from the top are that it's not important.

Seems like Harry would rather see other english clubs win the europa so we can "win" 4th, yay!!

Harry should just shut the fuck up. He just can't help himself the constant mouthing off to the press is like watching an addict in therapy...he's now getting on my nerves.

Urgh disgusting to read but for ever positive interview he has given a downer - and contradictory - one.

He could use Europa for youngsters and bringing any players back to match fitness if he has so much disdain for the competition. A much more effective way of bringing players back, unlike his method with poor Huddlestone after being out for near 6 months (?) and dropping an on form Sandro. (Not a slant on The Hudd, love him, just thought he was rushed back and was off the pace and it cost us when he didn't need to be rushed back.)

Redknapp is odd :/

So we can right off 5th and the whole of next season too. Can't understand why our team lacks a winning mentality can you ?

If he really thinks this, I think he should just fuck off to be honest. Seems like he gives up easy and lacks ambition.

Saw HR on Sky what he really said was that the EL is a distraction from the Premier, but if we are in it, then so be it. Not his exact words, but that was the gist of it. Sky being a bit naughty with the editing of his press conference. These guys just want to put a controversial spin on everything.
Unfortunately, Harry dosen't consider the possible implications of his answers to these parasites.

This has been taken out of context...Harry's interview included:

- we were still gunning for fourh, he was bigging up Everton for tomorrow..
- that Europa was a heavier burden than the Champions League, fair comment in my eyes, said it myself on here a few days ago
- even still we were still going to try and finish as high up the table as possible and we'll see were we end up.

Nout wrong with that IMO.

But to be honest he's testing my patience constantly talking about City etc....its like we are the jealous little brother who doesn't get as much as pocket money...

I don't really get this attitude. It's not as if we have a vastly inferior squad to them. I think if we swapped strikers we would have a significantly stronger team. As you said, why get all focused on City? Surely if we sign a couple of great players we'll be able to compete. We're competing with them pretty damn well now! Or we were until a few weeks ago...

Furthermore what does Citys millions have to do with our inability to beat the likes of West Ham, Blackpool, Wigan, Wolves and West Brom etc...

Absolutely nothing. I could tolerate it a bit more, if we were looking at hitting 70- 75 points, an improvement on last season and considering we were in Europe this season, and had done the business on most occassions but were pipped by City for fourth in the end after making a bloody good fist of it.

But no its been gift wrapped for them and sprinkled with loads of funky shit on top.

What people seem to be failing to realise is that its not the playing on thursdays and then sundays that fcuks things up as i believe 2nd string players will be playing anyway its the disruption to the whole squad, for instance all our coaches have to travel abroad, take time to prepare for the europa game instead of focusing on just the prem league match and then the majority of the squad will be absent leaving the 1st teamers to train with who?? the youth team?

People need to realise that its not the extra games that will be played, its the knock on effect of having to prepare and play them that causes the disruption.

As well as the first team we should staying we should keep redknapp to prepare for the premier league and give the job to tim sherwood Clive alen and les Ferdinand to manage. Our Europa players should also have a different kit..

Some people fall for media spin and decontextualisation (neologism).

If Mourinho had said this, everyone would swoon about how he is playing mind games and putting the pressure on, as well as taking pressure away from players etc.

Basically, in Harry's mind he works for and is managing director of Harry Redknapp Ltd.

Harry Redknapp Ltd touts about for business before contracting to whichever club offers it the best deal.

Once this is understood it's easy to understand why he's so chummy with the press, even at the expense of his employers and the fans of the club he represents, why he is held in such high regard by the commentariat, but low regard by the general football fan, why he takes every opportunity to say his opponents are fantastic and his own squad poor by comparison, why he simply has to make out his job is the hardest in the world, convince everyone he has a chairman who won't fund the squad and fans who don't understand the game, because the MD of HR Ltd always has to keep one eye on the next job, Spurs will come and go but the legend of Harry Redknapp must live on.
