As Barca has proved you don't necessarily need big strong players - small players can be just as effective; 'It's not about size, it's about ability to play' - said Redknapp where he discusses successful teams such as Barca with small players and a bit about Spurs' away form.

Defoe, Modric, Lennon are all small, and on there day have already proved they can be world beaters. Consistency and belief is now what is need to be instilled into their minds, and combine that those players with Bale, VDV, Gallas and Thudd, Spurs's squad is probably as strong as anyones in the EPL if not better. The difference between Spurs and Manure is belief. And, belief is something that is inherent and part of the tapestry of Man U.

Defoe isn't fit to clean Villa's boots, let alone be spoken of in the same sentance. That's the big difference. Modic, Huddlestone, Bale and vdV are maybe more comparable with their superior counterparts.

Plus the fact that we play in a tougher more physical league where we have to play half our matches against the likes of Bolton and Blackburn etc.

Harsh on Bolton. They're a different beast now.

True. I was thinking typical Bolton, rather than Coyle's Bolton. These's still plenty of old fashion clogging sides in the bottom half though.

got to agree with that. Our forward line is definitely our weakes link, our midfield definitely our strongest. Funny that 2 or 3 years ago it was the opposite.

Out of interest where do you think Spurs would finish in La Liga? I don't think we would beat Real or Barca but I definitely think we would finish 3rd

Villarreal are a pretty good side - I'd guess we'd be battling with them for 3rd. I think we'd finish ahead of the likes of Espanyol and Valencia.

I think the opposite is true.

Barca don't play in the prem week in, week out.

IMO (pure speculation) they will murder everyone for the first 5 games, before the injuries and star players get targeted.

Our game is faster, harder, less skillful and a gut check. Lets see how they defend against corners in the middle of December against some of the bully boys, over and over and over. Then face machines like Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, and us etc etc. It's one thing to have a one off European game, it's another to play in this league, and 3 cups for an entire season.

Ramos already tried it. He put out the likes of Bentley, GDS, Modric, Lennon, Bent, Keane etc etc but we got done by boring teams like Middlesborough.

I posted a thread on it aaaaaages ago:

They're not good cos they're small.

It's a disadvantage they overcome because they're so good

Believe it or not, but you're the one that has spoke of those two in the same sentence. As I said, Defoe on his day can be a world beater, which he has been proved in a number of games.

Also, this thread is not about the comparison of the Barca and Spurs squad, its referring to the point that Harry makes in the interview that teams can still be successful with small players as Barca have proved.

Yes, of course we play in a more physical league - I'm not so sure you're right as in 'tougher'. Thing is if you can't keep the ball it doesn't matter how physically strong you are you are.

Indeed, Owen Cole has gotten them to play football now. I wouldn't mind seeing him as our manager in case Redknapp fucks off to manage England - although I can't fathom why anyone with a three digit IQ would want to manage England, but that's another matter I guess.

What would a Barca style England team look like?

Barca would win every league in the world. They are that much better than anybody else.

Team that can get closest to them in a league competition (like last year and probably this year) is properly trained Real Madrid because of their squad depth and amount of attacking talent that is beyond comparison.

But yeah, them softies couldn't cope with Stoke on a rainy Monday night in November. :)

I take it you missed the first El Clasico when Ramos was in charge of Real and got them playing just like Stoke.

Not only would Barca win this league, they'd win it at a canter. Apart from the fact that they'd barely concede because they would be guaranteed 75%+ possession every match because few teams in this league can hold possession well, never mind when opportunity to do so comes once every few minutes, they also happen to have the ability to slice through any and every defence going. You sit deep, it won't work. You press, it won't work. There'll be the odd fluke victory over them, like Hercules recently, or Inter last season, but on the whole they'd be quite unstoppable.

The best way to play the rough, kick the shit out of you teams is with players who can control even the hardest hit pass with the greatest of ease, and hold onto the ball even with 15stone should be in UFC monsters breathing down your neck, and that pretty much describes every single midfielder and attacker at Barca from the age of 15 upwards.
